Cypress Korea (Country Manager Young-do Lim, www.cypress.com ) announced the new CY8CKIT-025 development kit for its PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 programmable system-on-chip architectures.
The new kit features PSoC's proprietary 8–20-bit delta-sigma ADC with a sampling rate of up to 384 ksps, an internal voltage reference of ±0.1%, and performance up to an 18-bit bits efficiency number (ENOB). This development kit enables measurements at microvolts, enabled by 0.003 percent precision. In addition, the ADC allows designers to implement both differential and single-ended inputs for the delta-sigma ADC, while providing excellent flexibility in interfacing with various sensor output forms.
Another distinguishing feature of the delta-sigma ADCs in the PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 is that designers can easily configure them with various resolutions, sample rates, input buffers, and gain modes. This can be easily achieved using the graphical user interface within Cypress’s PSoC Creator™ IDE. The pre-written software “components” in PSoC Creator allows users to graphically select desired values while significantly simplifying device configuration.
The new development kit includes four different types of analog temperature sensors, including thermocouples, diodes, thermistors, and resistance temperature detectors (RTDs). This kit also includes a bonus CY8CKIT-012 PSoC prototype and development expansion board. Designers can purchase the new development kit at the following website: ( www.cypress.com/go/cy8ckit-025 )
Cypress's PSoC high-precision analog solutions are the first solutions in this month's new PSoC peripheral program, a program designed to highlight applications and capabilities that PSoCs can provide but standard MCUs cannot. Each peripheral will be presented via video, app notes, webinars, and more at www.cypress.com/go/potm .
“The precision analog capabilities of Cypress PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 products are one of the unique features that set the PSoC apart from standard MCUs. To achieve this level of measurement accuracy with a standard controller, designers would need to add an independent differential ADC device, which adds design cost, power, board area, and complexity,” said Lim Young-do, General Manager of Cypress Korea.

Cypress PSoC 3 and PSoC 5
The new PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 architectures include high-precision programmable analog functions (analog-to-digital converters with up to 20-bit resolution), and scalable programmable digital resources integrate powerful industry-standard MCU cores, ample memory, and communication peripherals. PSoC 3 devices are based on the new high-performance 8-bit 8051 processor, while PSoC 5 devices are based on the powerful 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 processor. These new products provide designers with a seamless programmable design platform, enabling easier migration from 8 to 32 bits. The powerful capabilities of these new solutions dramatically expand the applications and markets that PSoC can serve, including automotive, portable medical devices, and industrial markets.
