QuickLogic Launches New CSSP Family to Solve HD Display Bridging Issues in Mobile Device Design

December 13, 2011 – QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), a leader in low-power Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSP), has launched the ArcticLink III VX series, a new display interface and enhanced solution targeting the mobile market. This product family enables designers to bridge incompatible display interfaces between processors and displays while improving display visibility and extending system battery life. Through QuickLogic’s latest OEM-validated Visual Enhancement Engine (VEE) and Display Power Optimization (DPO) technologies, the ArcticLink III VX platform supports virtually all displays used in tablet and smartphone designs.
The ArcticLink III VX series complements QuickLogic's existing ArcticLink II VX series and incorporates various improved technologies to address challenges in tablet and smartphone display design. VEE and DPO 2.0 technologies, based on Apical Limited's iridix® core, have been upgraded to HD+ (1920x1200/ WUXGA) resolution, providing performance that surpasses today's HD standards. Compared to previous generation products, the ArcticLink III VX series is characterized by reducing device size by up to 44% and lowering power consumption by 80%.
The ArcticLink III VX series consists of 13 products featuring QuickLogic's VEE HD+ and DPO HD+ technologies. To support incompatible interface systems, certain products provide integrated bridging between universal RGB, MIPI DSI, and LVDS standards. According to Randy Lowson, Senior Analyst at HIS iSuppli, "more than 60 million smartphones with mismatched processor and display interfaces are expected to enter the market this year." Additionally, to support compatible interface systems, the ArcticLink III VX series offers multiple MIPI pass-through interface architectures. Finally, to facilitate the easy integration of embedded pico projectors, some products in the VX series feature a single input, dual output structure that supports both compatible and incompatible interfaces.
Display and Power Optimization
Unlike existing standalone bridging solutions, the ArcticLink III VX series can improve display visibility even under adverse lighting conditions and extend battery life by 50%. QuickLogic's VEE HD+ technology significantly improves visibility by optimizing the dynamic range, contrast, and saturation of display content based on human visual models, enabling natural viewing regardless of the viewing environment. QuickLogic's DPO HD+ technology is characterized by its ability to extend battery life without compromising the user experience by adjusting display brightness according to ambient light and content in conjunction with VEE HD+.
