Fairchild Semiconductor's solution for lithium-ion battery pack protection design meeting space and efficiency requirements

Reduce installation space by up to 40% and increase efficiency
Mobile product designers typically face the challenge of not only reducing space in every aspect of the design but also improving efficiency. This is a particularly critical area for devices using single-cell lithium-ion battery packs, such as portable applications.
To meet the challenge of designers seeking to reduce design space and increase efficiency, Fairchild Semiconductor, a leading global supplier of high-performance power and mobile products, developed the FDMB2307NZ PowerTrench® MOSFET. This product is designed for applications where design space must be significantly reduced.
It provides the necessary efficiency improvements in form factor.
Specially designed for protection circuits of lithium-ion batteries and other portable applications, the FDMB2307NZ features dual N-channel common-drain MOSFETs that enable bidirectional current flow.
Using the enhanced PowerTrench process, the FDMB2307NZ provides high power density and a maximum RSS(on) of 16.5mΩ at VGS = 4.5V and ID = 8A, offering low conduction losses, low voltage drop, low power consumption, and overall improved design efficiency compared to competing solutions. The FDMB2307NZ also delivers excellent thermal performance, resulting in cooler system operation with increased efficiency.
It provides designers with one of the smallest MLP solutions in a 2x3mm package, which significantly reduces mounting space in the design—approximately 40% smaller than existing solutions. It complies with RoHS regulations and also protects against HBM ESD > 2kV.
By integrating advanced circuit technology into small and improved packages, Fairchild Semiconductor offers mobile users significant advantages in reducing design size, cost, and power. Fairchild's mobile IP can be found in most mobile devices used today.
