Gain influence to drive Genevieve's decision-making

LG Electronics has been appointed vice president of the GENIVI Alliance, a SW platform standards organization for the IVI (In-Vehicle Infotainment, audio, video, navigation, and other in-vehicle infotainment devices).

At its recent board meeting held at the Birmingham International Convention Center (ICC), the GENIVI Alliance unanimously elected Ryu Kyung-dong, Senior Vice President and Head of VC Smart SW Platform at LG Electronics, as Vice Chairman. At the same time, Peter Schönenberg, Head of Infotainment Design at BMW and the inaugural Chairman, returned as Chairman. The GENIVI Alliance currently has four executive officers: the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Accountant, and Secretary.

The GENIVI Alliance is a non-profit organization that is leading the revitalization of the IVI ecosystem by developing the GENIVI Platform, an open-source Linux-based software platform standard for IVI. Launched in 2009, the alliance boasts approximately 150 member companies, including automakers and auto parts companies. The GENIVI Platform is rapidly expanding, being used in IVI products from various automakers, including BMW, Renault-Nissan, Volvo, PSA Peugeot Citroën, and Hyundai-Kia Motors.

With the election of this vice chairman, LG Electronics has secured the influence to lead the decision-making of the 'GeniB Alliance'. LG Electronics plans to secure SW leadership of the 'GENIVI Alliance' in the era of autonomous driving and connected cars through "3C" activities, including ▲Connectivity: Expanding various connectivity such as smartphones, IoT home appliances, and web content, ▲Code: Further increasing SW productivity centered on reusable code, and ▲Collaboration: Pursuing collaboration with AUTOSAR, a standards organization in the field of automotive SW, and W3C, a web standards organization, along with its member companies including BMW, its chairman.
