LG Uplus announced that it has launched the 'Smart Russel UP' safe, a home interior safe that combines IoT technology with safe manufacturer Seonil Safe (CEO Kim Young-sook).
The "Smart Russel UP" IoT safe, jointly launched by LG U+ and Seonil Safe, features Wi-Fi connectivity. Its unique feature is its real-time integration with the "IoT@home" app, allowing users to receive notifications about the safe's status on their smartphones even when away from home.
Accordingly, customers can receive real-time push notifications on their smartphones when there is an issue with their safe, even while they are out and about. ▲Real-time usage notification that notifies you when the safe door is opened or closed; ▲Abnormality detection notification that notifies you with a pop-up in the app along with a 120db alarm sound when the safe is forcibly moved or subjected to a strong impact; ▲112 simple dispatch text report that reports the situation with one click and provides the dispatch location when the risk of theft is detected, allowing you to quickly respond to crises.
In addition, the Smart Russel UP' IoT safe, which is the first in Korea to include a safety guarantee service, provides customers with up to 60 million won in compensation and up to 100 million won in actual damages (liability for damages caused by fire) free of charge for one year in the event of an accident such as theft, damage, or fire.
The 'Smart Russel UP' IoT safe, which allows customers to choose from a variety of safe designs, such as Swarovski crystals and Klimt Kiss, according to their tastes, is available for purchase at LG U+'s online direct mall 'IoT Shop', home shopping channels, major department stores, and approximately 60 Sunil Safe dealerships nationwide.
LG Uplus IoT Division Director Ahn Sung-jun said, “Introducing an IoT safe, in addition to IoT ventilators, bidets, rice cookers, and air purifiers, is meaningful in that it provides new lifestyle values and convenience to customers.” He added, “We plan to continue to play a leading role in home IoT security services by expanding into various industries, along with the IoT safe that integrates insurance, security, and dispatch services into IoT.”

KT는 26일 경기 성남 판교 스타트업캠퍼스에서 한국인터넷진흥원(KISA)과 ‘홈 IoT 중소 협력사 보안역량 향상’에 관한 업무협력 양해각서(MOU)를 맺었다고 밝혔다. 이번 MOU 체결은 KISA에서 IoT 관련 업무를 맡고 있는 IoT 혁신센터에서 진행됐다. 홈캠 등 가정용 사물인터넷(IoT) 기기에 대한 해킹 우려가 높아지고 있다. 이러한 가운데 KT가 홈 IoT 분야의 중소 협력사의 보안역량을 높이기 위해 IoT 보안 전문기관과 손을 잡았다. KT와 KISA는 이번 MOU에서 KT 협력사의 홈 IoT 보안역량 향상과 보안의식 강화를 위해 ‘KT 홈 IoT 기기 대상 보안시험 수행’, ‘홈 IoT 보안인식 제고를 위한 교육’, ‘홈 IoT 보안기술 정보교류 등을 상호 협력하기로 했다. KISA는 2015년 IoT 보안 테스트베드를 열고 스마트 홈?가전, 자동차, 공장 등에 대한 시험환경을 제공 중이다. 아울러 IoT 보안과 관련해 교육 프로그램 및 컨설팅을 지원하고 있다. KT는 IoT 보안에서 역량을 갖춘 KISA와 협업하는 만큼 고객에게 보다 안전한 IoT 제품 및 서비스를 제공할 것으로 기대하고 있다. 홈 IoT 기기가 보안에 강하기 위해서는 제품을 생산하는 중소 협력사가 스스로 제품 설계하는 단계부터 보안관리를 할 수 있는 역량이 필요하다. 더구나 정부에서 IoT산업 활성화를 위해 홈 IoT 기기의 보안 적합성 강화를 추진 중인 만큼 KT와 KISA의 협업은 중소기업들에게 실질적인 도움이 될 것으로 예상된다.

SKT Launches IoT Device to Prevent Summer Electricity Bill Shock
SK Telecom announced the launch of a smart energy meter, an IoT device that provides real-time power consumption information, estimated monthly electricity bills, and notifications about entering progressive billing tiers. Last July, when extreme heat was prevalent, electricity bills for 190,000 households more than doubled compared to June, and in August, 2.91 million households paid high electricity rates due to the progressive tariff system. The smart energy meter allows users to check cumulative monthly power consumption and estimated charges through a smartphone app, and helps households adjust their power usage.
