KT and Yonsei University Exchange Autonomous Driving and Connectivity Technology
Published2017.05.31 10:23Through this business agreement, KT and Yonsei University have decided to cooperate jointly in various fields for connected car technology advancement, including autonomous driving and connectivity technology cooperation and joint participation in test beds.
In particular, both organizations plan to lead the way in developing element technologies in the autonomous driving infrastructure and V2X fields based on 5G Intelligent Network, and gradually expand cooperation areas including the development of new services and content specialized in the in-vehicle infotainment field that will be newly created as a content consumption space following future autonomous driving commercialization.
Lee Jae-yong, Vice President of Yonsei University, stated, "Both organizations will actively cooperate to commercialize core connected car technologies and establish service foundations to produce meaningful results," and added, "Recently, autonomous vehicle development is rapidly expanding, and related industries will inevitably be strengthened. Together with KT, we will play a leading role in connected car infotainment and infotelligence technology, which are key element technologies."

Even if autonomous vehicles are equipped with the most advanced sensor capabilities, ambient environmental information is necessary to handle unexpected situations for complete autonomous driving. Sensors and cameras have limitations when going over hills or crossing bridges with dense fog. This is why vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) as well as vehicle-to-everything communication (V2X) are necessary. Vehicle communication typically uses DSRC, WAVE (802.11p), WLAN (802.11a), and similar standards. DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) is a bidirectional communication method for exchanging various services and information between roadside base stations and vehicle terminals, making it the most suitable communication method for ITS (Intelligent Transport System). WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment), known as vehicular wireless communication (IEEE 802.11p), is medium- to short-range wireless data communication that supports public safety and private communication through roadside and inter-vehicle communication. This high-speed vehicular wireless communication technology supports V2V and V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) in high-speed driving situations, enabling emergency transmission of hazard information on roads and vehicles ahead, safety services that prevent rear-end collisions, and can be utilized in building various next-generation intelligent transportation systems such as multi-lane non-stop tolling services through vehicle network technology. In February this year, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) made vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology (V2V) mandatory on newly released vehicles. By 2022, all new vehicles in the United States are expected to be equipped with V2V technology. SKT-NVIDIA Begin Joint Research on Autonomous Vehicles
SK Telecom announced that it has concluded a strategic agreement with NVIDIA on autonomous driving and has begun joint technology development. TI Unveils Multi-Axis Coreless Current Sensor TMCS2100-Q1 for HEV/EV Traction Inverters
Texas Instruments has unveiled the TMCS2100-Q1, a multi-axis coreless Hall-effect current sensor for HEV and EV traction inverters. By simultaneously measuring horizontal and vertical magnetic fields through multi-axis sensing technology, it achieves up to 20 times higher accuracy compared to conventional single-axis sensors, while the busbar-unmodified design provides mechanical design flexibility.
