Wind River Supplies 'Device Cloud' for Remote Fire Truck Management

Wind River, a leading software company for the Internet of Things (IoT), announced today that fire pump manufacturer Waterous has unveiled 'Tellurus,' the industry's first digital touchscreen control panel for intelligent water supply and foam pump control based on Wind River's technology.
Tellurus significantly streamlines firefighters' preparations and reduces time, ensuring that there is no delay in saving lives and protecting property during emergencies. Major city fire departments in North America are operating Tellurus on their fire trucks, and Waterers has adopted the Wind River Helix Device Cloud to support these innovations, which enables remote software updates, technical support for troubleshooting, and device configuration.
Jonathan Gamble, Chief Product Engineer at Waterers, said, “Customer service groups are now able to monitor and track each asset used in the field. We know which equipment is turned on and when, and since each individual unit is assigned a serial number, we can secure the entire history of the corresponding fire truck.” "Accordingly, optimal performance can be guaranteed through the remote service capabilities of the 'Device Cloud' without sending service engineers to the site," they explained.
Through Wind River's IoT device management platform, 'Device Cloud,' Waterers has secured the capability to provide differentiated customer service. Based on this, the company has strengthened its business competitiveness while optimizing revenue from parts replacement and repairs for devices in service. Furthermore, the city authorities are now able to remotely manage the entire fire truck fleet and efficiently coordinate firefighting operations based on data collected from the 'Device Cloud.'
In addition, the 'Device Cloud' enables connecting Tellurus to other systems within the fire truck to retrieve vehicle data, or integration with all external applications, including currently operating IT systems and analytics cloud services.

Dell EMC, Easily Build a Hybrid Cloud
델 EMC가 마이크로소프트의 애저스택(Azur Stack)을 위한 새로운 클라우드 어플라이언스를 공개했다. 올 하반기 출시 예정인 ‘델 EMC 애저스택 클라우드 어플라이언스(Dell EMC Cloud for Azure Stack)’는 델 EMC의 앞선 기술과 지원 서비스를 기반으로 MS의 퍼블릭 클라우드인 애저(Azur)와 동일한 환경을 온프레미스에서 구현할 수 있는 하이브리드 클라우드 폴랫폼이다. 델 EMC는 지난해 IDC 전세계 클라우드 인프라 시장 조사(Worldwide Quarterly Cloud IT Infrastructure Tracker)에서 점유율 17.6%로 1위를 차지했다. 새롭게 발표한 ‘애저스택 클라우드 어플라이언스’는 이 같은 델 EMC의 리더십과 기술력을 집약해, MS 애저스택 기반의 하이브리드 클라우드를 쉽고 빠르게 구축할 수 있는 ‘턴키(일괄 조달)방식’의 솔루션이다.

ETRI to Develop Technology to Track Criminals Using CCTV AI
ETRI(한국전자통신연구원)는 클라우드 기반 지능형 영상보안 인큐베이팅 플랫폼 개발에 나선다고 1일 밝혔다. 본 기술은 클라우드 플랫폼을 기반으로 다양한 치안 환경에 최적화된 지능형 치안 모델을 학습, 제공함으로써 영세한 영상관련 업체의 지능형 원천기술력 확보를 통한 시장경쟁력 강화는 물론 미래형 첨단치안 플랫폼 구축에 큰 도움이 될 것으로 보인다. 기존에 설치된 CCTV는 범죄를 해결하는데 있어서 결정적인 증거를 제공하는 등 폭넓게 활용되고 있지만 육안으로 정확하게 식별하기 어려운 상황이 많다. 한 사람이 수십 대 CCTV 채널 영상을 장시간 모니터링함에 따라 위험상황이 발생해도 이를 인지하지 못하는 경우가 발생하기도 한다. ETRI는 교통사고, 범죄와 같은 위험상황을 실시간 자동 감지하여 경찰에 알려주고, 사고와 관련된 용의자와 차량을 자동으로 식별, 추적할 수 있도록 치안용 CCTV에 인공지능 기술을 접목한 미래형 첨단치안 기술을 개발한다.
