Ideal for always-on systems as it maintains low standby current

Analog Devices, Inc. announced the LTC7800, a synchronous step-down DC/DC controller capable of operating at up to 2.25MHz, enabling use in small circuit sizes and high power densities.

This device has a minimum on-time of 45ns, capable of switching from 24VIN to 3.3VOUT, and switches at a fixed 2MHz, avoiding demanding noise-sensitive frequency bands, including AM radio. Synchronous rectification provides up to 95% efficiency, and Burst Mode® operation keeps quiescent current under 50μA in no-load standby conditions, making it ideal for always-on systems.

The LTC7800 operates from an input supply voltage of 4V to 60V, protecting against high voltage transients and continuous operation during automotive cold crank conditions, and supporting a wide range of input sources and batteries. The output voltage can be set from 0.8V to 24V at output currents up to 20A, making it ideal for 12V or 24V automotive, heavy equipment, industrial control, robotics, and telecom applications.

The LTC7800 features powerful 1.1Ω on-chip MOSFET gate drivers. It operates at a selectable fixed frequency from 320kHz to 2.25MHz and can be synchronized to an external clock within the same range. Users can choose between continuous operation, pulse-skipping, and low-ripple burst mode operation under light loads. The current-mode architecture offers features such as easy loop compensation, fast transient response, and excellent line regulation.
