Mohenic, a daring car startup that builds homemade electric cars

In 2013, a startup that entered the automobile market monopolized by Hyundai and Kia Motors held a production announcement event for a handmade electric car on the last day of May 2017, five years later. “We are Mohenic Garages, the company that produces the third largest number of cars in Korea.”
Making cars as a startup
There were many institutional difficulties in producing cars. Since the form of an existing car had to be brought over to obtain permission, the first and second generations of Mohenic G were produced in a rebuilt form. This attracted the attention of CNN, which even featured a page on STYLE with the headline, “Hyundai’s used car is reborn and sold for around 80 million won.” Starting this year, the law has been revised and we are developing the Mohenic M series in collaboration with designers.
The beginning of the Mohenic M series is the electric car Mohenic Ms. It has a battery cell from Samsung SDI and a body made of magnesium material in collaboration with POSCO. Mori, an artificial intelligence that is still in the development stage, plans to proceed by signing agreements with other companies using Google’s platform.
At this point, CEO Kim Tae-seong asked himself about Mohenic's 'original technology'.
“We can’t make the entire vehicle. This is not a time to compete on technology, but rather a competition to take over the market by connecting existing things. Also, the price of electric battery cells is falling, and if we receive government subsidies, we expect to be able to lower the launch price to at least 10 million won. “It also has marketability.”
Mohenic's proprietary technology includes a smart room mirror and a four-wheel drive in-wheel motor platform.
The electric car MS does not have side mirrors. The rearview mirror also supports the mirror function while driving, but it operates as a camera. The rearview mirror has been turned into a smartphone. By inserting a SIM card, it is possible to use navigation and a black box, as well as make calls and download and operate applications. The smart room mirror, scheduled to be released within three months, is expected to be used as a core terminal for connected cars, such as whether the door is opened or closed and emergency light control, through continuous updates.
Mohenic Garages has continued its research and development through three rounds of crowdfunding and investment from professional investment institutions, and has been building a handmade car production plant called ‘Dream Factory’ in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do since November of last year. In addition, it is conducting vehicle performance tests in cooperation with the Korea Automotive Parts Research Institute. The electric car Mohenic MS is scheduled to be officially released in the fall of 2019.

악보 못 읽어도 작곡해요, 쿨잼입니다!
23일(화) 코엑스에서 열린 글로벌 스타트업 컨퍼런스 부스를 둘러보던 중, 마이크 앞에 섰다. “한번 해보세요! 쉬워요!” “흠~음흠흥흠!~”하자, 악보가 나타났다. 흥얼거리는 콧노래, ‘허밍’으로 녹음하고, 음을 수정하고, 원하는 장르를 선택하면 악보를, ‘노래’를 만들어주는 꿀잼컴퍼니의 험온(Hum un)이다. 악보는 SNS로 공유할 수 있고, 앱 내에서 관리할 수 있다. “따로 홍보한 적은 없는데, 베타버젼 다운로드가 250만을 넘겼어요. 60%는 외국 시장이고, 40%가 한국이예요.” 좋은건 알아보는 사람들의 안목에 국내 매체는 물론 미국의 테크크런치에도 보도된 바 있다. 험온의 주요 기능은 음을 신호로 옮겨오는 정보복원기술(MIR)과 어울릴만한 반주를 추천해주는 머신러닝 기법이다. 정보복원기술은 사람의 목소리 뿐만 아니라 파도소리, 빗물 소리 등으로도 작곡을 할 수 있어 악기를 다루지 못하고 악보를 읽을 수 없어도 누구나 작곡을 할 수 있다. 반주는 발라드부터 오케스트라, 록 등 여러 반주를 추천해주는 데 기계에 코드와 화성법을 학습시켜 어울릴만한 반주를 추천해주는 방식이다. “이러다 작곡가들 다 굶어 죽는 것 아닌가요?” “누구나 쉽게 작곡할 수 있지만, 작곡가들도 편하게 작곡할 수 있게 된거죠.” 현재 안드로이드 휴대폰에서 베타버젼으로 이용할 수 있으며 정식버전과 IOS버젼도 올해 출시 예정이다. 험온은 삼성전자 사내 벤쳐 육성기업 C랩에서 최병익 대표의 아이디어로 만들어졌다. 최 대표와 4명의 마음 맞는 직원은 지난해 5월 삼성전자에서 독립했고, 싱어송라이터와 디자이너가 추가 합류하며 7명의 꿀잼컴퍼니를 이뤘다.

Boledi, a dog left home alone, says, "Don't worry."
As single-person households increase, more people are raising pets. There are products that play with pet dogs and feed them during the long hours when their owners are away from home. It's called 'Boledi'. Boledi Co., Ltd., a startup that applies ICT technology to the pet industry, provides smart pet care services that improve the behavior of pet dogs. Launched in September 2015, Boledi is an IT-converged product that automatically dispenses feed as a reward for ball play by utilizing Pavlov's principle of conditioned reflex. The product underwent 3 years of development and 1 year of field testing alone. When a pet dog retrieves a ball launched through the launcher and puts it into the input slot, feed comes out to the tray below. The ball launch distance can be adjusted, and since it is rechargeable, it can be used both indoors and outdoors. The frequency of feed dispensing can be set according to the number of times the dog plays with the ball, and the amount can also be adjusted. Feed can be dispensed automatically by setting a feeding time without ball play.
