Fairchild Semiconductor's single-chip PWM solution providing industry-leading standby power of less than 30mW for space-constrained applications of 75W or less.
Provides very low standby power without adding external components
mWSaver™ Technology; Design and Installation Space Saving
Efforts to reduce the standby power consumption of products such as laptop PCs, printers, LCD TVs, and monitors to below 50mW are ongoing, and designers require alternatives to address standby power consumption in current designs. To meet these strict regulations today, additional circuits and control devices must be used to eliminate power loss, which results in higher costs and more complex circuit designs.
To help designers meet these low standby power challenges with a small number of components, Fairchild Semiconductor, a global leader in high-performance power and portable products, has developed the FAN6756 PWM controller featuring mWSaver™ technology. This enables the reduction of standby power loss in external circuitry without the need for additional support ICs.
The single-chip FAN6756 is a highly integrated green mode PWM controller that can reduce external components by up to 15 and lower standby losses in SMPS designs. Even when compared to recent competitive IC solutions, this product offers greater power consumption savings and can reduce the BOM by up to $0.30.
The FAN6756, ideal for power supplies requiring very low standby power, including open-frame SMPS for LCD TVs, LCD monitors, and printers, as well as adapters for laptops, printers, and game consoles, employs mWSaver technology, which includes Deep Burst Mode technology to reduce switching losses under no-load and low-load conditions. mWSaver technology can reduce power loss in external circuits and components as well as in the controller itself.
The FAN6756 incorporates the innovative AX-CAP™ discharge method, which satisfies IEC61010-1 safety requirements while minimizing EMI filter stage losses by discharging X-CAP energy through the HV pin and removing the X-CAP discharge resistor when the power plug is unplugged from the AC outlet. This product also includes robust protection features—including Sensing Resistor Short Circuit Protection (SSCP), Fairchild’s proprietary technology that terminates the PWM output to prevent system damage when the sensing resistor is short-circuited—providing a safe and reliable solution.
The FAN6756, an 8-pin SOP package, is part of a comprehensive family of power products designed to not only improve no-load power consumption but also meet stringent energy efficiency standards, reducing component count and simplifying modern electronic designs. Fairchild Semiconductor's mWSaver technology provides the highest level of minimum no-load and low-load power consumption to meet currently proposed global standards and regulations, offering designers reduced form factors, improved reliability, and lower system costs.
