SMEs Supported Through Industry-Academic Cooperation Projects
Presentation of Best Practices, Continued Cooperation in 2017

The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) announced the results of the technology development commercialization initiatives it has been carrying out jointly with participating companies since June of last year as the lead organization for an industry-academia collaboration project with the Small and Medium Business Administration.

The Industry-Research Exclusive Project is a program that provides comprehensive support, including research personnel, advanced equipment, reliability, intellectual property rights, and marketing, by utilizing dedicated SME support organizations within research institutions to address the difficulties SMEs face during the technology development and commercialization processes.

Examples of support achievements for small and medium-sized enterprises utilizing excellent R&D infrastructure announced this time include △Gowoonsesang Cosmetic's high-frequency medical device, △SS Light's lighting fixture for smart converter, △Piolink's PoE security switch, △Shinjin Future Film's thermal insulation film, and △Intree's light emitter process test cell for OLED.

In addition to technology development, KETI provided customized commercialization consulting necessary for market entry, including analysis of competitors' technologies, prices, and patents, and support for establishing marketing strategies. Furthermore, it strengthened personnel exchanges through joint research via dispatch and linking commissioned researchers with employment opportunities at participating companies.

KETI President Park Cheong-won stated, “While patents are important for technology commercialization, focusing on the transfer of know-how embodied by researchers increases the success rate of commercialization,” adding, “Going forward, KETI will recognize companies not merely as targets for support but as partners for cooperation, and will continuously expand personnel exchanges.”
