STMicroelectronics Launches Industry's Lowest Current Consumption High-Speed Voltage Comparator
December 22, 2011, Seoul — STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM), a global semiconductor company in various electronic device applications and a leader in standard ICs, has launched a high-speed voltage comparator boasting the industry's best response speed versus power consumption.
ST's high-speed voltage comparators can be applied to applications where response speed is critical, such as data communication equipment. For instance, they enable seamless communication traffic flow by minimizing latency to immediately recover data in the event of signal noise. High-speed response comparators can be used as output buffers for oscilloscopes and analog-to-digital converters, or for pulse-width modulation in acoustic amplifiers.
ST's TS3011 single comparator achieves a propagation delay of 8ns and consumes only 470µA of current at 5V. This is 50% lower than other solutions. With this energy efficiency, ST customers can design products that consume less power and minimize their environmental impact.
The TS3011 integrates a push-pull output circuit that does not require a pull-up resistor and a rail-to-rail input circuit with an operating voltage range of 2.2V to 5V. This device provides stable response speeds over a wide temperature range from -40°C to +125°C and is a robust solution featuring excellent electrostatic discharge protection and 200mA latch-up protection.
ST’s TS3011 high-speed voltage comparator, available in a space-saving SMD package, is designed for signal conditioning applications in the mobile communications and industrial sectors. It is currently in mass production and is priced at $1.05 for orders of 1,000 units. Pricing is negotiable for large orders.
