KT Announces 5G Era at AIIB Annual Meeting in Jeju
Published2017.06.16 10:34KT announced its participation in the 2nd Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) held from the 16th to 18th at the Jeju International Convention Center (ICC).
Oh Seong-mok, President of KT's Network Division, took the stage as the first speaker at the seminar titled "4th Industrial Revolution and Infrastructure" on the first day of the annual meeting on the 16th. Addressing the topic of "5G and the 4th Industrial Revolution," President Oh emphasized that "the 4th industrial revolution is an era of hyper-connectivity, and 5G will serve as its core, becoming the 'Digital Oxygen' of the 4th industrial revolution." He also stated, "We will successfully showcase 5G communication technology at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and secure global 5G leadership."
On the second day, a "Korean Infrastructure Company Briefing" will be held during the business session to promote Korean companies' technological capabilities and share development experiences. At the briefing, Shin So-hee, Executive Director of KT's Global Business Promotion Division, Asia/Americas Department, will present on "Differential Competitiveness of Korea's Telecommunications Infrastructure and Successful Cases of Overseas Expansion." Having accumulated extensive global ICT business experience over many years, KT plans to present various cases where ICT technology converges with diverse industries such as energy, transportation, finance, and smart cities, resulting in improved efficiency and value.
The AIIB was established in January 2016 with the purpose of supporting infrastructure investment such as roads, railways, and ports throughout Asia. The 2nd Annual Meeting, hosted by Korea, will feature official events including the opening ceremony, business sessions, AIIB policy briefings, and host country seminars under the theme of "Sustainable Infrastructure."
Oh Seong-mok, President of KT's Network Division, stated, "This AIIB Annual Meeting provided an excellent opportunity to showcase KT's advanced 5G technology and capabilities to representatives from member countries," adding, "Based on KT's 5G global leadership, we expect it will be of great help in discovering and participating in overseas ICT infrastructure projects in the future."

KTH Launches Dedicated Route Search API for Motorcycles and Trucks
KTH has launched new APIs including bike and cargo truck route search APIs and Korean map English/Japanese service APIs on 'API Store (www.apistore.co.kr)', Korea's first API (Application Programming Interface) distribution platform. KTH has partnered with GIS specialist Mappers to newly launch bike route search API and cargo truck route search API, while enhancing the existing automobile route search API and offering it with improvements, thereby strengthening the distribution of customized route search APIs by transportation mode.

KT Supports Smart Farms to Make Mushroom Cultivation Easier for Beginner Farmers
KT announced on the 15th that it has jointly developed a specialized smart farm total solution for mushroom cultivation with Green Maritime, a small and medium-sized enterprise, and opened a demonstration complex for a 'mushroom cultivation dome house smart farm' in Joseong-myeon, Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do. European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
