KT, "Will Take the Lead in Maritime Safety with Integrated Public Network Technology"

We will take the lead in creating a safe ocean with advanced ICT technologies such as OTHAD and RAN Sharing.
KT announced on the 19th that it is actively working to expand public safety communication network technologies, including exhibiting its ultra-high-speed maritime communication network (LTE-M), by participating in the '1st Asia-Pacific e-Navigation Underway 2017 Asia-Pacific' held at the Lotte Hotel Jeju.
The '1st Asia-Pacific e-Navigation International Conference,' which began on the 18th and runs until the 20th, is organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), and the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA). KT will set up an exhibition booth with Ericsson LG and AM Telecom on the 19th (today) and 20th to intensively introduce public safety communication network technology. 
KT is introducing maritime safety technologies such as the Over-the-Horizon Antenna Array System (OTHAD), which extends maritime coverage up to 200km without repeaters, and RAN Sharing technology, a wireless access sharing technology between networks to efficiently expand service coverage. It is also showcasing key integrated safety solutions, including a screen door accident prevention system that prevents subway accidents using a 700MHz public safety communication network (NB-IoT) network, and a high-precision GPS correction system (SBAS). NB-IoT life jackets, backpacks, and drone LTE base stations are also on display.
e-Navigation is a next-generation comprehensive maritime safety management system designed to reduce accidents and improve port operational efficiency by applying Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to ship operations. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) decided to introduce e-Navigation internationally in 2019 and is currently developing new technical standards and regulations to support it.
Kim Young-sik, Senior Vice President and Head of the INS Division at KT’s Network Group, stated, “KT is focusing on the entire public safety communication network, including the development of OTHAD antennas to maximize maritime safety coverage, as well as drone LTE, backpack LTE, and NB-IoT life jackets. We will continue to strive to provide total solutions that can ensure the safety of the public through innovative technologies.”

지구의 마지막 통신 음영지역 ‘바다’. 세계에서 처음으로 추진되고 있는 ‘바닷속 통신 기지국’을 만들기 위한 수중 통신기술이 공개됐다. 수중 통신기술은 국토의 삼면이 바다인 우리나라에서 ▲잠수함 탐지 등 국방용 수요는 물론 ▲수산 먹거리 안전을 위한 방사능·패류 독소 감시 및 적조 모니터링 ▲쓰나미·해저 지진 조기 경보 등 필요성이 더욱 강조되고 있으며, 전세계 국가간 경쟁도 치열해지고 있다. SK텔레콤과 호서대는 인천 남항 서쪽 10km 해상, 수심 약 25m 깊이, 송수신 거리 약 800m 환경에서 LTE 방식을 활용해 바닷속 통신기술 시험에 성공했다고 31일 밝혔다. 이는 2015년부터 수행해온 ‘기지국 기반 수중 통신 기술’로, 2021년까지 SK텔레콤 외 13개 연구기관이 참여한다. 호서대와 SK텔레콤은 이날 바닷속 수온과 염도·조류속도 등 10여 가지의 정보를 측정, 이를 음파(3~70KHz)에 LTE(OFDM 변조) 주파수를 얹는 방식을 활용해 문자와 사진 데이터를 20초 간격으로 연속 송수신하는데 성공했다. 연구진은 이날 기술시연에서 문자와 사진 데이터의 실시간 사진 전송을 선보여 향후 수중망에서 다양한 센서를 통해 수집된 정보들이 수중기지국에 집적된 뒤 해상부이를 통해 육상으로 안정적으로 전달될 수 있음을 실증했다. 서해 인천 앞바다는 특히 바닷물의 혼탁도가 심하고 수심이 얕아 수중 통신에 부적합한 환경으로, 이번 시연은 악조건에도 불구하고 수중 통신망의 안정적인 성능을 보여줬다는 평가다. 호서대 고학림 교수는 “바닷속에 수중 기지국을 만드는 수중통신 방식 실증은 우리나라가 처음이며 이번 시연을 통해서 수중기지국에 집적된 각종 데이터가 수중 통신을 통해 해상부표 전달에 성공, 수중 기지국 테스트베드 조성을 위한 핵심 연구 단계를 넘어섰다”고 평가했다.

KT는 중소기업인 그린마리타임과 버섯 특화 스마트팜 토탈 솔루션을 공동 개발해 전라남도 보성군 조성면에 ‘버섯재배 돔하우스 스마트팜' 실증단지를 개소했다고 15일 밝혔다. ‘버섯재배 돔하우스 스마트팜' 실증단지는 KT와 그린마리타임이 중소기업청의 상생 프로그램을 통해 지난 2년 간 공동으로 개발한 결과물이다. KT의 IoT/ 빅데이터 기술을 활용한 GiGA 스마트팜 솔루션과 그린마리타임이 보유한 스마트팜 하드웨어 기술을 결합해 버섯재배에 최적화된 돔하우스 형태의 스마트팜 토탈 솔루션을 국내 최초로 구현했다.

KT and Advantech Strengthen Cooperation in Industrial IoT and Smart Cities
KT announced the launch of an LTE-M gateway with Advantech Korea and the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 'industrial IoT market development cooperation' on the 16th. This MOU aims at the launch of Advantech's IoT gateway 'UBC-222' developed based on LTE-M and joint exploration of the industrial IoT B2B market. KT and Advantech Korea conducted several months of field testing and terminal verification testing for the launch of the 'UBC-222' equipped with KT LTE-M communication functionality to ensure communication quality at the level of conventional mobile phones. In particular, the 'UBC-222' comes with basic interoperability with 'IoTMakers', KT's IoT platform, enabling IoT service implementation from IoT device connectivity to information collection and monitoring.
