Suitable for automotive applications controlled by load dump transients

Analog Devices has released the new LT8607 synchronous step-down switching regulator with 750mA and 42V input.

The new product's unique synchronous rectification topology not only provides 93% conversion efficiency at a switching frequency of 2 MHz, but also allows designers to avoid noise-sensitive core frequency bands, such as AM radio, while using a solution with a very compact footprint.

Burst Mode® operation is ideal for always-on systems because it maintains standby current consumption of 3µA or less under no-load standby conditions. With a wide input voltage range of 3.0V to 42V, it is suitable for automotive applications that require control with a minimum input voltage of approximately 3.0V and a load dump transient of 40V or more during cold crank and stop-start situations.

The built-in 1.2A switch provides a maximum continuous output current of 750mA. The LT8607 maintains a minimum dropout voltage of just 250mV under all load conditions (at 500mA), making it suitable for situations such as automotive cold cranking.

By applying spread-spectrum frequency modulation and special design techniques to reduce EMI, it is possible to easily pass the CISPR25 and Class 5 EMI standards required for various applications in the automotive and industrial sectors. In addition, the minimum on-time is only 45ns, enabling continuous frequency switching of 2MHz from a 16V input to a 1.5V output.

The LT8607 uses internal high-efficiency power switches at the top and bottom, along with essential boost diodes, oscillators, control, and logic circuits integrated on a single die. Low-ripple burst mode operation maintains high efficiency at low output currents and keeps output ripple below 10 mVP-P.
