A 77-inch transparent flexible display has been unveiled.

On the 22nd (Thursday), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a joint 'Transparent Flexible Display National Project Performance Report' with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Evaluation and Planning and LG Display at the Olympic Parktel in Seoul.


At the briefing, future convergence products such as a smart desk using a large organic light-emitting diode (OLED) flexible display and an augmented reality (AR) aquarium were exhibited. The 77-inch transparent flexible display, which was first unveiled to the public on this day, has significantly improved size and resolution compared to the 55-inch FHD-class display announced at CES.

Through this research and development project, we plan to expand new markets for the use of organic light-emitting diodes in vehicles, public sectors, architecture, and education through the development of technologies such as large-scale, variable-transmittance, and flexible technologies. From the planning stage, we not only developed panel technology, but also developed a user environment so that the developed panel can be immediately applied to convergence products.


Lee In-ho, First Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, said in a preliminary meeting, “With the development of transparent flexible technology for organic light-emitting diodes, in which Korea is maintaining its number one position, we expect that the use of organic light-emitting diode panels, which have been limited to smartphones and televisions, will be greatly expanded to include construction, automobiles, and medical fields.”

He added, “This case, where large-scale panel manufacturers and small- and medium-sized enterprises jointly participated in the display front-end and back-end industries to achieve results such as technological development, new market creation, and industrial ecosystem revitalization, will serve as a reference for future R&D planning not only in the display field but also in the materials/components field.”
