You can make firefighting training fun with realistic VR experiences.
Published2017.06.26 15:35Metaport, which conducts virtual fire drills in cooperation with the Gyeonggi Provincial Disaster and Safety Headquarters, participated in the Smart Tech Show and opened a fire experience zone.
The immersive experiential training utilizing virtual reality (VR) includes ▲ 'Heroes On Fire,' which allows up to 200 firefighters to train ▲ 'I Am a Firefighter,' an indirect experience of a firefighter extinguishing a fire in a wooden temple ▲ and 'Golden 5,' a virtual training program to prepare for various disaster situations.
Immersive safety training can be experienced at fire stations throughout Gyeonggi-do.
Jang Gye-hyeok, a team leader at Metaport, stated, "During the regularly held firefighting competition, we conduct disaster preparedness drills using Golden 5 indoors, separate from the outdoor events." Regarding 'I Am a Firefighter,' which is still in the preparation stage, he added, "We also plan to conduct education to raise awareness about cultural heritage protection by simulating a fire at a cultural property."
Team Leader Jang continued by stating, "There were various limitations, such as cost and public complaints, to conduct regular fire drills at the fire academy by actually setting off a fire," and added, "'Heroes on Fire' offers diverse scenarios for unexpected situations and individual/team training, allowing for cost-effective training."

VR 게임방들이 젊은이들이 다니는 길목마다 하나 둘 생기고 있다. 노화된 기존의 노래방은 물론 신규 노래방 창업을 준비하는 사람들에게 VR은 뜨거운 감자로 급부상할 것으로 전망된다. 이에 가상현실 속에서 내가 주인공이 되어 무대에서 밴드와 노래를 부르고, 아이돌 실력을 갖춘 댄서들과 함께 춤을 추며 노래할 수 있는 VR 노래방이 늘고 있다.

[Discussion] "The Future: Coexistence of Mixed Reality and New Media, HMD Devices Must Be Actively Developed"
“제4차 산업혁명은 혼합현실(MR)과 뉴미디어가 혼합된 형태가 될 것이다” 4차산업혁명과 기술의 증강현실과 공존현실을 주제로 한 토론회가 지난 23일 열렸다. 이날 토론회는 한국과학기술연구원(KIST)의 유범재 책임연구원과 과학동아의 윤신영 편집장이 발표와 토론으로 진행됐다. 유범재 책임은 뉴미디어에 대해 실감을 교류하고 인체 감응을 통한 확장된 공간인 공존공간(Coiexstence space)이라고 설명했다. ‘현실-가상-원격공간’이 하나의 공간이 된다. 사용자는 아바타나 스마트 기기를 통해 타인과 실감 교류와 인체 감응하며 공간을 확장한다. 그가 공존공간을 연구하게 된 계기는 스마트폰 시장이 빠르게 자리 잡은 이유와 같다. 1인 가구는 늘어나고 있지만, 사람들과 소통하는 SNS는 점점 확산하는 ‘나 홀로 또 같이’의 가치관이 제2의 스마트폰 시장을 이끌어 간다는 것. 올해 초 페이스북이 발표한 Social VR을 보면, 참여자가 오큘러스 HMD를 착용하고 가상 공간에서 카드 게임이나 칼싸움을 한다. 지난 21일(수)에는 구글이 ‘구글 글래스’ 출시 3년 만에 블루투스 기능을 지원하는 업데이트 ‘XE23’을 발표했다. 이는 페이스북과 구글이 공존현실에 연구를 진행하고 있음을 알 수 있는 대목이다.
