January 9, 2012 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the launch of 1.5W output DC/DC µModule® converters with 725VDC galvanic isolation (product names: LTM8047 and LTM8048). These products are available in a 9mm x 11.25mm x 4.92mm BGA (ball grid array) package. All components, such as the transformer, control circuitry, and power switch, are mounted within the small enclosed BGA package, providing superior interconnect reliability even in applications with high vibration. These reliable, ultra-compact products break ground loops in applications such as industrial, aerospace, and instrumentation. Both devices operate at input voltages from 3.1V to 32V and provide a regulated output voltage on the secondary side (adjustable from 2.5V to 12V for the LTM8047 and from 1.2V to 12V for the LTM8048). The LTM8048 includes a low-noise linear post-regulator capable of reducing output ripple noise to 20µVrms at 300mA.
The LTM8048's isolated post-regulator provides 2.5% output voltage accuracy. The LDO's low-noise performance enhances the performance of high-precision mixed-signal converters by providing clean supply rails. Additional features of both products include overcurrent protection and an adjustable soft-start function.
The LTM8047 and LTM8048 are currently available for immediate purchase in three temperature classes (E/I version from -40°C to +125°C and MP version from -55°C to +125°C). Pricing starts at $8.25 per unit for the LTM8047 and $8.75 per unit for the LTM8048, based on a 1,000-unit supply.
