LG Electronics has launched an IoT device that recognizes voices and operates home appliances.
Starting this month, LG Electronics is operating SmartThinQ™ experience zones at 100 LG Best Shops nationwide.
Customers can experience various IoT devices at the experience zone, including the voice recognition speaker 'SmartThinQ Hub 2.0' and the 'Solar Cell Temperature and Humidity Sensor'.
LG Electronics' SmartThinQ Hub 2.0, unveiled in April, is a cylindrical hub device equipped with artificial intelligence that can interact with users. SmartThinQ connects to all LG Electronics home appliances equipped with Wi-Fi.
The command is "Hi LG." It wakes the device, turns on appliances, checks product status, and allows you to check the weather, fine dust levels, and more in real time.
For example, if a user says “Hi LG” to the SmartThinQ Hub 2.0 and then “Turn on the air conditioner,” the hub will turn on the air conditioner. You can also easily adjust the desired temperature and wind speed of the air conditioner by saying, “Make it cooler” or “Set the air conditioner to low.”
Users can also check the remaining laundry time by saying, “When will the laundry be finished?” or check information about the weather, fine dust, etc. by saying, “Tell me the weather today” or “Tell me the fine dust level.”
The voice recognition engine featured in the SmartThinQ Hub 2.0 was independently developed by LG Electronics and is optimized for controlling and managing home appliances. This means that the IoT hub, which connects to home appliances, can analyze and understand human speech and control home appliances using an AI-based voice recognition engine. LG Electronics plans to further develop its voice recognition engine, enabling conversations with people, thereby evolving its AI capabilities.
Additionally, the SmartThings Hub 2.0 can also be used as a speaker with an excellent output of 20W (watts), which is equivalent to that of a premium portable speaker.
LG Electronics is also exhibiting at the experience zone ▲a ‘solar cell temperature and humidity sensor’ that monitors the temperature and humidity of an indoor space in real time and suggests the appropriate temperature and humidity ▲a ‘Smart ThinQ light bulb’ that allows you to turn lights on and off with your smartphone ▲a ‘Smart ThinQ plug’ that allows you to check real-time electricity usage with your smartphone.
Song Dae-hyun, President and Head of LG Electronics' H&A Business Division, emphasized, "We will continue to lead the smart home era by introducing IoT devices that can improve consumers' quality of life."

IoT 제품이 출시되면 사용자는 스마트폰을 통해 댁내 소형 가전제품들을 제어할 수 있다. 예를 들어 여름철에 사용하는 선풍기의 경우, 사용자는 누워서도 별도의 리모콘 없이 앱 또는 간단한 음성명령을 통해 풍속, 풍향 및 타이머를 조절 할 수 있다. 또 취침 전에 미리 앱에 시간 단위의 선풍기 강약조절과 방향 조절 등의 작동 스케줄을 입력할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 사용자가 선풍기를 켜놓고 외출했을 경우 열림 알리미 등의 IoT센서가 외출 상태를 감지해 앱 푸시 알림을 사용자에게 전송, 언제 어디서나 원격으로 댁내 소형가전을 제어할 수 있다. 특히 사용자의 수면 상태를 인식해 자동으로 온도를 조절하고, 빅데이터를 기반해 수면을 유도하는 수면 센서를 추진할 계획이다. LG유플러스 안성준 IoT 부문장은 “신일산업과의 협력을 시작으로 소형가전 제품들에 IoT 서비스를 접목해 빠르게 확대시킬 계획“이라며 “홈IoT 플랫폼에 연동된 다양한 기기들을 통해 고객의 사용경험을 혁신하는 서비스를 선보일 것“이라고 말했다.

통신 3사, 홈IoT 제휴사 확보 경쟁 '바쁘다 바빠'
LG유플러스가 호반건설과 홈IoT 시스템 구축 협약을 맺고, 호반건설이 공급하는 신축 아파트 내 홈IoT 플랫폼 구축에 상호 협력키로 했다고 밝혔다. LG유플러스는 오는 6월 포항시 북구 초곡지구에 공급하는 호반건설의 ‘포항초곡 호반베르디움’ 824가구에 홈IoT 플랫폼 구축과 함께 실외 IoT공기질 측정기도 설치할 예정이다.
