Development of High-Definition DMB and Phone Connectivity Modules for Automobiles

Litbig, a venture company that develops automotive infotainment solutions, announced on the 10th that it has developed a 'high-definition DMB broadcasting solution and connectivity module'.

The newly released module allows users to enjoy high-definition DMB broadcasting simply by installing it on the existing AVN system in their cars.

Developed in two types—modular and finished BOX—it can support a wide range of vehicles released in Korea, including foreign cars. Additionally, through phone connectivity, the smartphone screen can be mirrored onto the larger automotive display, allowing users to enjoy navigation apps such as TMAP and Kakao Navi, as well as video content, installed on the smartphone directly on the car's screen.

High-definition DMB (HD-DMB) broadcasting has improved the picture quality to HD level, addressing one of the biggest consumer complaints, thereby enabling the reception of high-definition broadcasts that are 12 times clearer than the existing QVGA quality. Currently, channels such as YTN and KBS Star have started test broadcasting in the metropolitan area since June of last year, and terrestrial broadcasters such as MBC and SBS are also planning to launch the service within the year.

For existing sold cars, there are obstacles to receiving high-definition DMB broadcasts. Since vehicles currently in operation are not equipped with High Definition DMB receivers, there are many cases where reception is difficult despite plans for the official launch of HD-DMB broadcasts. Consumers are experiencing inconvenience as they are required to purchase expensive new navigation systems, but there are not many product lines that support High Definition DMB.
