My Passport Ultra, WD Backup lets you schedule automatic backups yourself

Western Digital has launched a new WD brand portable drive with a new design, the 'My Passport Ultra'.

My Passport Ultra is a portable storage solution that not only features a stylish new metal design, but also supports various software such as 'WD Discovery', 'WD Backup', and 'WD Security', allowing you to easily integrate and manage the vast amount of content created every day on numerous platforms including SNS.

According to market research firm Parks Associates, the average household uses more than three public cloud services these days. Representative examples include Dropbox, Google Drive, and Microsoft's OneDrive. The widespread adoption of public clouds is also driving the growing need for solutions that can integrate and manage content created, shared, and stored across various platforms.

WD Discovery, included with the My Passport Ultra, is software that allows you to easily back up photos, videos, documents, and more shared and created across various platforms, including social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, the cloud, and devices. With a simple operation, you can download all content, including photos and videos tagged on Facebook, to your drive. It's also useful for keeping local copies of files stored on your favorite public cloud services.

The My Passport Ultra also supports WD Backup software, which allows you to schedule automatic backups directly from your computer to the drive. Users can also enable hardware encryption and data protection with the 256-bit AES hardware encryption feature built into WD Security software.

“More and more content is being distributed across devices, clouds and social media platforms, making it difficult to know which account or platform it resides on,” said Glenn Hower, senior analyst at PAX Associates. “Storage solutions and service providers, including Western Digital, will play a pivotal role in unifying and improving this content environment.”
