January 19, 2012, Seoul — STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM), a global semiconductor company for various electronic device applications and a leader in standard ICs, has launched two new families of low-power operational amplifiers that offer superior precision and are smaller in size. ST’s TSV85x and LMV82x were designed to improve upon the LMV321, the industry standard for signal conditioning applications in the computer, industrial, and medical fields.

Operational amplifiers, which are integrated circuits that amplify voltage, are essential components of electronic systems used in various devices and equipment. ST’s latest operational amplifier, the industry’s smallest, offers no performance constraints and perfectly reflects the trend toward thin form factors, such as ultra-thin laptop computers.

ST's new operational amplifiers offer a shutdown pin option that reduces the device's current consumption to zero, and Class A devices in the TSV85x and LMV82x families achieve the industry's lowest input offset voltage. Consequently, equipment manufacturers can reduce production costs.

ST's TSV85x and LMV82x operational amplifier ICs can operate in a range of 0 to 200mV in normal mode, enabling flexible design. The absolute maximum rating is 6V, increasing the margin for typical 5V power supplies. The expanded supply voltage range and enhanced Electrostatic Discharge Protection (ESD) capabilities mean improved application safety.

Customers can benefit from ST’s competitive analog IC design division, efficient in-house manufacturing capabilities, and outstanding quality standards providing a defect rate of 0.1 ppm.

ST's new operational amplifier is available in single, dual, and quad versions. The dual operational amplifier ICs of the two product families are available in the industry's smallest 2x2mm DFN8 package.

ST's TSV85x and LMV82x operational amplifier ICs are already in mass production, and for orders of 1,000 units, prices range from $0.33 to $0.57 for the TSV85x and from $0.39 to $0.86 for the LMV82x, depending on configuration and package.
