Cypress Korea (Country Manager Young-do Lim, www.cypress.com ) announced groundbreaking features for its Gen4 TrueTouch® touchscreen controller that significantly improve system performance without additional cost.

Cypress has developed a proprietary new technology based on Gen4's patent-pending high-voltage Tx driver. The new Tx-Boost feature expands the performance range of Gen4 by delivering a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) three times higher than previously possible. This feature is achieved without using performance-degrading digital filters or external components, enabling manufacturers to produce the industry's thinnest phones and tablets at a lower cost.

The key to superior touchscreen performance in noisy environments is a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Gen4 already delivers up to four times the raw SNR of competitors through its internally generated 10V Tx circuit. In contrast, what competitors offer requires customers to use large, expensive, and noisy external switching regulators to generate high-voltage Tx signals.

The Tx-Boost feature, now available on all TrueTouch Gen4 devices, uses specialized hardware acceleration to triple the SNR of the Gen4 family, which is already at the highest level. This high SNR enables manufacturers to employ sensor-on-lens technology with direct lamination on displays and in-cell architectures with seamless performance to create the industry's thinnest products.

In addition, the Tx-Boost function efficiently parallelizes multiple tasks in hardware without burdening the CPU, along with expensive digital filtering. This significantly improves Gen4's scan speed, making it much faster than the world's fastest touchscreen controllers. This parallel operation also further enhances Gen4's superior power consumption capabilities by increasing the amount of idle time during each scan period.
