Nordic Semiconductor Launches Production-Ready Bluetooth 5 Development Solution
Published2017.08.18 16:33Nordic Semiconductor announced the release of S132 v5.0 and nRF5 SDK v14.0, production-ready Bluetooth 5 software solutions that enable immediate development of Bluetooth 5 products based on its nRF52832 SoC.
It is a pre-validated Bluetooth 5 protocol stack that supports 20-link multi-functions, providing full links to enable all function combinations to be performed simultaneously. It supports new Bluetooth 5 features, including an enhanced 2Mbps PHY.
Developers can realize Bluetooth Low Energy's completely new, enhanced high throughput and increased data bandwidth through the 2Mbps PHY. Additionally, since data can be transmitted at twice the speed compared to before, the existing power budget can be reduced by up to 50%.
Other features include L2CAP Connection-Oriented Channels, network privacy, and a new Bluetooth channel selection algorithm (CSA #2). CSA #2 introduces an advanced channel hopping sequence to improve interoperability and stability between Bluetooth Low Energy devices in the congested 2.4 GHz band.
nRF5 SDK v14.0, which comes with S132 v5.0, supports all peripheral drivers for the nRF52832. It also includes L2CAP examples for Object Transfer Service (OTS), Direct Test Mode (DTM) for 2Mbps PHY and Coded PHY (long-range mode), and buttonless Device Firmware Upgrade (DFU) examples.
S132 v5.0 is a certified Bluetooth 5 protocol stack that, together with nRF5 SDK v14.0, provides an ideal platform for developers to implement fully Bluetooth 5 certified products.
"The nRF52832 has been incredibly popular in the Bluetooth developer community since its launch," said Kjetil Holstad, Short Range Wireless Product Manager at Nordic Semiconductor. "Many developers are now eager to take advantage of new features, including the high speed of 2Mbps in Bluetooth 5. This solution is currently available to enable developers to implement products using a pre-certified Bluetooth 5 protocol stack."

Nordic Announces Software Development Kit to Easily Develop Bluetooth Mesh
노르딕 세미컨덕터는 엔지니어들이 블루투스 메쉬를 개발할 수 있도록 ‘메쉬용 nRF5 SDK(nRF5 SDK for Mesh)’를 출시했다고 발표했다. SDK는 블루투스 SIG(Special Interest Group)가 블루투스 메쉬 1.0을 공식 채택한 것과 동시에 발표되었다. 메쉬용 nRF5 SDK는 노르딕 웹사이트에서 다운로드할 수 있으며, 노르딕의 첫 번째 블루투스 메쉬 소프트웨어 프로토콜을 포함하고 있다. SDK는 nRF51 및 nRF52 시리즈 SoC를 비롯해 S110, S130, S132 및 블루투스 4.0-호환 SoftDevices(노르딕의 블루투스 저에너지 스택)와 호환된다. 이미 노르딕의 nRF52 개발 키트를 보유하고 있는 개발자들은 메쉬용 nRF5 SDK를 이용해 블루투스 메쉬 기반 애플리케이션 구현 작업을 즉시 시작할 수 있다.

Nordic Semiconductor Provides SoC for Wearable Devices for the Visually Impaired
노르딕 세미컨덕터는 시각 장애인을 위한 웨어러블 기기 분야의 국내 스마트 기술 전문기업인 닷(D.O.T, 대표 김주윤)이 노르딕의 수상 경력이 있는 블루투스(Bluetooth) 저에너지 nRF52832 SoC(System-on-Chip)를 채택했다고 밝혔다. 이 SoC는 사용자의 블루투스 4.0(이상) iOS 또는 안드로이드 스마트폰과 전용 앱을 통해 컴팩트하면서도 가격경쟁력을 갖춘 ‘닷 워치(Dot Watch)’를 연결할 수 있도록 해준다. 닷 워치는 동작 시 전기-역학적(Electro-Dynamic) 셀을 사용하여 저-지연(Low-Latency) nRF52832 SoC-기반 링크를 통해 스마트폰에서 전송된 정보를 릴레이하는 새로 고침이 가능한 점자 디스플레이에 전원을 공급한다.
