KT Establishes Foundation for Digital Healthcare Business in Russia Following Kazakhstan

KT and Pusan National University Hospital announced on the 6th that they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Russian Far East Investment Agency to promote digital healthcare business.
KT is embarking on a project to improve the medical environment in the underdeveloped Russian Far East region by providing ICT-intensive mobile health diagnosis solutions and supporting world-class Korean medical technology. It is the first Korean company to enter the Russian market with a healthcare platform-based business.
KT and Pusan National University Hospital have installed a mobile diagnostic solution (urine test, ultrasound, blood test diagnostic device) that can quickly diagnose diseases such as cardiovascular disease (angina, myocardial infarction), respiratory disease, diabetes, and prostate cancer with small amounts of blood and urine at the Far Eastern Federal University Hospital in Vladivostok, Russia. The measured diagnostic information is stored/managed through the KT Healthcare Platform, and based on the shared information, doctors at the Far Eastern Federal University Hospital and Pusan National University Hospital promote international collaboration through a video conference system.
The KT consortium plans to introduce digital healthcare solutions and expand partnerships to medical institutions across Russia and neighboring CIS countries, including Uzbekistan, in the future. Busan-Vladivostok has regular air and ship routes, so it is expected that there will be an increase in the influx of Russian medical tourists and the accompanying entry of domestic mobile diagnostic solution startups and mid-sized companies.
KT Future Business Development Team Leader Koh Yoon-jeon said, “This MOU signing with the Russian Far East Investment Agency is the result of our digital healthcare business in Kazakhstan, and is the cornerstone for expanding the digital healthcare market to the five Eurasian Economic Union countries, including Russia.” He added, “We plan to use this opportunity as a stepping stone to expand KT’s digital healthcare to Central Asia and Eurasia.”
Park Ik-min, director of the Convergence Medical Technology Institute at Pusan National University Hospital, said, “In the short term, it will support digital healthcare, but in the mid to long term, if Korea’s medical big data technology advances into Russia, it will be able to make groundbreaking progress in the Russian medical field, which has vast land but a shortage of medical staff.”
Meanwhile, KT conducted a feasibility study on digital healthcare business in Kazakhstan in December 2016 in cooperation with Pusan National University Hospital and Busan Technopark. In the second half of 2017, as part of the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare's medical ICT export project, it plans to supply digital healthcare solutions to two base hospitals and eight regional hospitals in Almaty and Aktobe regions of Kazakhstan and build a healthcare platform.

81% of corporate executives and IT decision makers are concerned about falling behind in cloud adoption.
Commvault announced today the results of a survey commissioned by IT market research firm CITO Research titled "IT Leaders Do Worry About the Cloud: An Executive Cloud Survey." The survey was conducted with 100 corporate executives from the technology, financial, manufacturing, healthcare, retail, and telecommunications sectors in the United States, with a focus on corporate executives' overall perspectives and business strategies regarding cloud adoption. According to the survey results, 81% of corporate executives and IT decision-makers expressed extreme or significant concern about falling behind in cloud adoption.

Smart healthcare devices held back by medical device classifications must be classified differently according to their intended use.
As digital healthcare evolves, medical services are transitioning from a 'diagnosis'-focused approach to one centered on 'precision' and 'prediction'. So what certifications must devices developed for smart healthcare obtain? A team leader from the Clinical Division at KB Securities analyzed, "As we enter the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the role of intermediary platforms that analyze diagnostic data and connect it with physicians will grow," and predicted that as the personalized treatment market expands, more companies will emerge providing such services.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.
