KT Declares Co-Growth with SMEs Through Future Convergence Technology

KT announced on the 6th that it will conduct a 'demonstration project in energy and security sectors' aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises by leveraging its energy efficiency and security service platforms and technologies, targeting companies located in Incheon's Namdong Industrial Complex, which is primarily composed of manufacturing businesses.
The energy and security sector demonstration project is an SME support initiative jointly promoted by Incheon City, KT, and the Incheon Creative Economy Innovation Center (Center Director Joo Young-beom, hereinafter Incheon Center) to achieve ▲technology transfer of large enterprises' business experience ▲contribution to local communities such as upgrading aging industrial complexes ▲provision of practical business opportunities for incubated companies, as well as ▲co-growth with incubated companies, thereby contributing to local government's public interests.
To ensure the success of this demonstration project, KT plans to collect and analyze electricity usage data from Namdong Industrial Complex using its energy management platform KT-MEG, and develop an energy efficiency model suitable for manufacturing factory environments to be applied to companies located in Namdong Industrial Complex.
Additionally, by utilizing KT GiGAeyes, an IoT-linked video security service, KT will develop an optimized intelligent security system model featuring intrusion detection through cloud-based CCTV and virtual movement management to promote overall improvements to Namdong Industrial Complex's security infrastructure.
Park Soon-yong, Chairman of the Namdong National Industrial Complex Operators Association, expressed his expectations, stating "Through this demonstration project, we will be able to dramatically reduce electricity costs, which is one of the burdensome expenses for our industrial complex tenant companies, and furthermore, this can become an opportunity for junior venture entrepreneurs to grow their businesses, for which I am very pleased."
Meanwhile, KT and Incheon Center have opened a 'Smart City Business Cooperation Center' where companies can experience innovative technologies based on KT's future convergence business experience and technological capabilities, and where SMEs can test the marketability of various smart city-related technologies they possess.
The Smart City Business Cooperation Center displays 9 KT innovative technologies including smart streetlights, smart energy, and integrated security control systems, which any SME entrepreneur can experience. Developers can use KT's IoT Makers infrastructure to test their solutions operating and functioning in real systems, and IoT devices, components, and spaces are provided to enable the development of new solutions.
Yun Kyung-lim, Senior Vice President of KT's Future Convergence Business Promotion Division, stated "KT hopes that through this demonstration project in conjunction with the Smart City Business Cooperation Center, a job creation and co-growth model can be established," and added "By utilizing KT's experience and resources in energy efficiency and intelligent security system construction projects, we will actively cooperate so that local governments, startups, and large enterprises can achieve win-win outcomes."

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.

ETRI Develops 200Gbps Photodetector… Initiates Localization of Optical Receivers for AI Data Centers
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed a photodetector device that processes optical signals of approximately 200Gbps per channel for the first time in Korea. This device is a component that converts optical signals into electrical signals and determines the reception performance of AI data centers and 5G/6G communication networks. ETRI achieved bandwidth of 70GHz or higher and optical responsivity of 0.75A/W or higher, and integrated an indium phosphide lens on the rear of the chip to enhance optical reception efficiency and alignment convenience. The technology was presented at OECC 2025 and was recently published in the international academic journal 'Optics Express'.

SKT and Ericsson Expand Joint Research on AI Networks… Preparing for 6G Beyond 5G Advancement
SK Telecom and Ericsson are expanding AI-based mobile network collaboration. On the 19th, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding covering 5G advancement through 6G standardization, and agreed to undertake joint research and verification in the areas of AI-RAN, open and autonomous networks, security, and future communication technologies. SKT Receives International Standard for AI Data Center Interconnection Structure… Establishes Operating System Standards
SK Telecom's proposed AI data center interworking architecture has received final approval as an international standard at the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) conference. The core of this standard is the classification of AI data centers into three layers—service, management, and infrastructure—and the organization of signaling requirements between layers. As AI service proliferation increases the importance of interworking among various systems within data centers such as computation, power, cooling, storage, and security, this standard is significant in that it presents a common architecture for operations and service delivery. SK Telecom stated that it initiated the relevant standardization project in 2024 and achieved this approval following approximately two years of discussion.
