Advantech Hosts 2017 Embedded Design-in Forum (ADF) for Eighth Consecutive Year

"IoT exists across all fields including smart farms, parking lots, roads, smart metering, and logistics. We must achieve innovation for future lifestyles. However, since there are no standards in IoT, we must build an ecosystem to drive innovation."

Miller Chang, president of the Embedded IoT Group, made these remarks at the 2017 Advantech Embedded Design-in Forum.

He added, "We will establish close collaboration with various ecosystem partners and pioneer the IoT market to create real business opportunities." In the past, discussions with customers primarily focused on I/O and optimization-based functionality, but in the IoT era, 'connectivity' has become the priority. Additionally, he stated that services related to security and data analysis, as well as remote device management, have become increasingly important. Advantech launched an LTE-M gateway with KT in June and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for industrial Internet of Things market development cooperation. At the demo booth, visitors were able to experience firsthand an IoT demonstration featuring a 'sensor that detects whether a person is present in a restroom to reduce power consumption.'

Additionally, Advantech is building partnerships across various fields through WISE-PaaS, an IoT software platform; Embedded Linux & Android Alliance (ELAA); and M2.COM, which provides wireless and sensor IoT applications.

The event drew approximately 200 industry officials, demonstrating strong interest in embedded platforms and Internet of Things solutions. In the morning session, ecosystem partners Microsoft, Intel, and KT presented IoT visions and roadmaps. The afternoon technical sessions featured presentations from PTC, an IoT platform specialist, on smart connected platforms; ARM on ARM Mbed: Internet of Possible; and Innodep on edge computing for cloud-integrated control solutions.
