UL Completes Consecutive Registration of 'Galaxy S8 and S8+' for Eco-Friendly Certification

UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science company, and Samsung Electronics celebrated the achievement of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus obtaining the Ecologo, an eco-friendly certification under the American National Standards Institute's 'ANSI/UL110 Mobile Phone Sustainability Standard,' and subsequently being listed on EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool), an eco-friendly certification system for U.S. electronic products, at the annual meeting between Samsung’s U.S. subsidiary and UL held on August 31.
UL CEO Keith Williams presented a certificate to Young-hoon Um, Vice President of Samsung Electronics North America, commemorating the listing of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus in the EPEAT system, following their ECOLOGO Gold certification last June. Samsung Electronics, the first manufacturer to obtain ANSI/UL110 standard certification for mobile phones, achieved the feat of being listed in EPEAT, which was newly established on July 31, 2017.
The ECOLOGO and EPEAT integrated certification program, conducted through the collaboration of UL and Samsung Electronics, is expected to pave a new path for manufacturers to be listed on EPEAT in the future. Manufacturers who have obtained the ANSI/UL 110 certification, announced on March 24, 2017, for their products are eligible to be listed on EPEAT through a simplified approval program. Through this, UL customers gain an unrivaled opportunity to utilize their mobile phone certifications in ANSI/UL 110 during EPEAT continuous verification procedures.
Samsung Electronics has demonstrated that the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus meet sustainability standards at every stage of the product lifecycle, from design and manufacturing to use and end-of-life, in order to obtain the ECOLOGO integrated certification and EPEAT listing.

Samsung Electronics' ANSI/UL110 certified smartphones can be found on UL's sustainable product databases, SPOT and EPEAT registrations.

삼성전자, '갤럭시 노트8' 체험 가능한 ‘갤럭시 스튜디오’ 오픈
