Designers face the challenge of two audio configuration jack standards – the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) L/R/M/G and Cellular Telephone Industries Association (CTIA) L/R/G/M jack pin map standards for the 3.5mm audio jack. Due to the different jack pin maps, designers must choose to support one standard or rely on more complex designs to support both.
To address this issue, Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE:FCS) has added the FSA8049 MIC/GND crosspoint switch, which complies with the two-audio jack configuration standard and a portfolio of high-performance analog mobile audio products. This product detects the positions of the ground (GND) and the microphone (MIC) on the audio plug and automatically connects them appropriately.
