IDT, a family of PCIe Gen 3 switches providing up to 64 lanes and 16 ports
Expanding Industry-Leading PCIe® Solutions
IDT ( www.idt.com , Country Manager for Korea: Sang-Yup Lee), an analog-digital company leading the core mixed-signal semiconductor solutions market, today unveiled a family of industry-leading Gen 3 PCI Express (PCIe) switches targeting Solid-State Drive (SSD) and cloud computing applications. The new products are designed based on IDT's leading technology and position in the scalable, high-performance PCIe Gen 1 and Gen 2 switch sectors. Supporting up to 64 lanes and 16 ports, they feature enhanced protocol-related elements to increase efficiency and reduce power consumption.

IDT’s 89H64H16G3 is a 64-lane, 16-port Gen 3 PCIe switch with a maximum switching capability of 128 GBps (Gigabytes per second). Supporting industry-leading switching performance, it is considered the most scalable and high-performance single-chip Gen 3 PCI Express solution currently on the market. Compliant with the latest Gen3 PCIe specifications, this device provides a link speed of 8 Gbps, enabling the industry's highest-speed PCIe connectivity targeting next-generation enterprise servers and storage systems. The newly added Gen 3 protocol-related enhancements improve overall efficiency and reduce power consumption, which are critical factors for energy-efficient enterprise and cloud computing data centers. IDT has been sampling this product family with key customers over the past few months.
Kam Eshghi, Senior Marketing Officer at IDT’s Enterprise Computing Business Unit, stated, “The future of cloud computing and PCIe SSDs depends on the advancement of PCI Express technology,” and added, “Our customers rely on IDT, a leader in PCIe solutions, to implement the advanced ICs needed to support their next-generation designs.” He explained, “The recently introduced PCIe Gen 3 switch is based on IDT’s industry-leading PCIe solution portfolio and complements the industry-first PCIe Gen 3 signal conditioning retimer introduced last November.”
Jim Pappas, Director of Technology Initiatives at Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC), explained, “IDT is serving as an unwavering partner in the PCIe ecosystem. As demand for enterprise storage and computing hardware increases, PCI Express is expected to continue playing a key role as a system interconnect protocol. Intel finds hope in IDT’s ever-expanding portfolio of PCIe Gen 3 switches and retimers.”
IDT's new switch family includes clock isolation features that enable operation with a standalone Spread Spectrum Clock (SSC), and multicast features that significantly improve performance. In addition, the multi-root partitioning specification integrated into this switch enables designers to reduce system costs by replacing multiple PCIe switches with a single monolithic solution.
To see this device in action, you can visit the Intel Developer Forum, where IDT is scheduled to demonstrate its Gen 3 PCI Express solution. The demonstration will take place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, from September 13 to 15.
