KT provides 'WiFi roaming' service free of charge on a regular basis to KT customers visiting Japan and China for Chuseok.

In May, KT officially proposed the freemium of Korea-China-Japan 'WiFi roaming' service to China Mobile and Japan's NTT docomo, carriers belonging to the 'SCFA (Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement)' strategic cooperation body of Korea-China-Japan telecom operators. Through SCFA cooperation, KT subscribers can freely use China Mobile's WiFi network when visiting China and NTT docomo's WiFi network in Japan. By providing the service without separate service application or fee charges, customers' burden of overseas data communication usage is expected to decrease significantly.

'WiFi roaming' is a service that automatically connects to a WiFi network after convenient one-time setup without requiring separate ID/password input. Just like selecting KT WiFi AP in Korea, data connection is conveniently available by simply selecting the WiFi constructed by both companies.

In Japan, data usage is available without time or capacity limitations at over 100,000 hotspot zones where '0001docomo' affiliated WiFi networks (SSID) are detected, including ▲subway and train stations throughout Japan ▲approximately 46,000 convenience stores such as 7-ELEVEN ▲approximately 10,000 fast food restaurants such as KFC and Mos Burger ▲approximately 4,000 cafes such as Starbucks ▲approximately 700 major hotel lobbies. In China, coverage can be confirmed through a separately provided website, and connection is possible at hotspot zones where 'CMCC' affiliated WiFi is detected.

"For Japan and China, the countries most frequently visited by Koreans, we have decided to provide free WiFi service through strategic partnership with Japan's NTT docomo and China's China Mobile to alleviate the burden of local roaming costs," said Lim Chae-hwan, Executive Director of KT's Wireless Service Division. "We will make continuous efforts to expand the countries where service is available," he added.

Meanwhile, KT's measure actively participates in the government's policy to reduce household communication expenses and is intended to reduce communication cost burden for KT customers. It is expected to be of great benefit to customers with high data usage in Japan and China.
