February 21, 2012 – Intersil, a global leader in the design and production of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, announced today the launch of a new web-based design tool for power management products.

Designed for ease of use, iSim™V4 for switching regulators is the successor to the company's iSim V3 for integrated FETs. The product offers new advanced features for selecting, simulating, and optimizing single-phase PWM controllers with external FETs. Furthermore, it enables users to complete designs quickly.

The new version of iSim allows users to input power supply requirements and configure schematics by selecting desired switching frequencies, soft-start, and other options. Furthermore, designers can create complete prototype designs without the need to consult datasheets and application notes to find design formulas or repeatedly complete optimization steps. The automation of the power supply design process makes power performance simulation and loop stability and efficiency control fast and easy.

iSimV4 provides 'custom design' to experienced power supply designers. With custom design, designers input specific performance targets for the power supply, and the system automatically selects the appropriate values for industry-standard components. Additionally, designers can select power MOSFETs to optimize the lowest junction temperature and overall power supply efficiency within the system.

As a result, the design tool provides a more robust design and a complete Bill of Materials (BOM), and can be ordered online via DigiKey. The detailed features of the design tool are as follows.
