February 21, 2012, Seoul — STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM), a global semiconductor company in various electronic applications and a leading supplier of electronic components for automotive doors, today launched the industry's first multi-functional door-zone driver that integrates vehicle power window electronics control. This innovative chip, which not only reduces component costs but also provides a new level of passenger comfort, is already being widely utilized by an industry-leading German automaker.
Currently, equipment manufacturers use relays to drive power window electronics motors. ST's latest door actuator driver redefines existing system topologies by eliminating the use of mechanical relays when controlling power window electronics. This innovation reduces component costs while eliminating the need to rely on expensive electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance technologies applied to existing solutions. Furthermore, users can control power window electronics much more smoothly and quietly. ST's new door zone driver supports window speeds adjustable based on window position, such as smooth start and close, and has also lowered noise levels by eliminating relays.
ST's L99DZ80 incorporates a programmable SPI slew rate[1] control IP. This IP can drive four external MOFSETs in a half-bridge configuration dedicated to power window electronics applications driven by Pulse Width Mode (PWM). The product features six bridges for double door lock control, side mirror opening/closing and mirror axis control, and also includes a high-side driver, bulb, and LED for the mirror defroster. This device also includes an external MOS transistor and a control block for charging and discharging electronically tinted (darkenable) mirror glass.
