Limelight Networks presented a solution to reduce IT operating costs and improve CDN quality with its high-performance cloud storage service, 'Origin Storage'.

Most internet traffic is generated by the use of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to provide services such as videos, websites, file downloads, games, and web storage. However, when content not stored in the existing edge cache is requested, the CDN must retrieve it from the origin storage; if the performance of the origin storage is not sufficiently good, the transmission speed drops, drastically degrading the quality of the user experience and causing previously fast response times to suddenly slow down.

As such, when internet-based content is stored in the edge cache, response times can be measured within tens of milliseconds, but there are also many cases where content needs to be retrieved from the source storage. In this case, with typical cloud storage, response times would increase to hundreds or thousands of milliseconds, but if it is perfectly integrated with a CDN with a high-performance distributed structure like Limelight's cloud origin storage, it can provide response times within tens of milliseconds.

Limelight Networks is offering free storage capacity and expert support services for 60 days of unlimited use of Origin Storage, a cloud storage service enhanced with the Intelligent Ingest feature that optimizes media file transfer over the network. In addition, Limelight plans to support customers so that they can continue to use the service at satisfactory storage prices even after the free trial ends.
