Excellent low-light performance, near-infrared quantum efficiency, and high dynamic range capture capabilities

ON Semiconductor has unveiled a new 1/2.7-inch 2.3-megapixel (Mp) CMOS digital image sensor featuring a 1936H x 1188V active pixel array.

The AR0239 delivers exceptionally clean and sharp digital images under demanding lighting conditions, both bright and dark. With the ability to capture both continuous video and single frames, this device is an ideal solution for various applications, including security and surveillance systems, body cameras, and automotive DVRs (instrument panel cameras).

Key features of the AR0239 include excellent low-light performance, robust near-infrared (NIR) quantum efficiency (QE), and high dynamic range scene capture capabilities. The high-sensitivity 3 micrometer (μm) x 3 μm back-illuminated (BSI) pixel, utilizing an improved NIR process employing ON Semiconductor’s Dr-Pix technology, has a response speed that is 21% faster and QE that is 10% faster compared to previous devices.

This sensor features various sophisticated camera functions such as in-pixel binning and windowing, and is equipped with an on-chip analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that supports both 10-bit and 12-bit architectures. Operating in linear mode of a continuous interface, this device delivers excellent video performance while fully supporting HiSPi/MiPi compatible HD at up to 1080p at 90fps. 2 or 3 exposure 1080p HDR output is possible at up to 30fps.

The AR0239 is optimized for easier design using multi-camera synchronization capabilities, simplifying more sophisticated installations. Embedded in an iBGA package, this chip enhances the robustness and reliability of the image sensor in terms of thermal and humidity recovery and performance. The device's operating temperature range is -30°C to +85°C, consistent with industrial application specifications.
