ETRI, 'Toktoki' to Serve as a Virtual Lab for SMEs
Published2017.10.31 09:29ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) announced that the 'Customized Technology Support for E-Family Enterprises,' which has been implemented over the past three years, has helped startups gain competitiveness by shortening their technology development time. In essence, ETRI's research departments are acting as virtual centers for one or more relevant small and medium-sized enterprises. The number of personnel employed through this project alone amounts to approximately 520.
Case 1
Atori Research (CEO Jae-woong Jeong) is a company specializing in the softwareization of networks. Starting with the Smart Networking business in 2015, the company has built a full line of network-related products with the support of ETRI in technology, commercialization, testing, and technology marketing. As a result, last year, it won the Grand Prize for Excellent Patents and the Minister's Award at the K-ICT Cloud Awards.
Case 2
iPortfolio is an educational technology company that is expanding its influence in the education market through e-books, having developed the e-book platform 'Spindle Books' and supplying royalty-based solutions to Oxford University Press in the UK. From the early days of the startup, it received technical support from ETRI, including an EPUB-standard E-book viewer and multi-platform compatibility.

Case 3
Hancom Interfree is a multilingual automatic interpretation and translation solution company possessing world-class speech recognition and automatic translation technologies. Through technological cooperation with ETRI, which has 20 years of relevant expertise, the company provides interpretation and translation solutions with enhanced performance, including OTG (On-The-Go) USB types and external device types. It is scheduled to support interpretation and translation services for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Case 4
Enchem is a company specializing in electrolytes that develops and produces high-performance additives for secondary batteries and electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). ETRI is assisting in preparing for the next-generation battery market by improving product performance through the evaluation of electrolytes for electric vehicles and supporting the development of organic-inorganic hybrid solid electrolytes.
The performance of the supported SMEs was also excellent. The technological level compared to developed nations rose by 22.3%, from 46.0% to 68.3%, and the effect of product quality improvement also increased from 51.7% to 75.1%. The level of user satisfaction among E-Family companies that received technical support was also high at 88.4 points.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers.
