Running AliOS, an IoT operating system, on the nodes and connecting to the cloud

STMicroelectronics announced that it is launching a cloud-node IoT solution in collaboration with Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing equipment and business unit of Alibaba Group.

This collaboration enables the easy development of nodes and gateways using ST's IoT semiconductor development blocks, and allows for seamless connection to the Alibaba Cloud by running Alibaba's IoT operating system, AliOS, on the nodes. This enables the rapid market launch of a large volume of IoT applications.

In conjunction with the official launch of AliOS, ST has completed support for running AliOS on its STM32 microcontroller platform, which is preferred by Chinese IoT design engineers and boasts the industry's largest portfolio of ARM Cortex-M-based components. This enables the use of ST's complete portfolio, which includes all the building blocks necessary for the Internet of Things, such as processing, connectivity, security, sensors, power management, and signal processing.

Through this collaboration, we have increased development efficiency and provided China's first IoT turnkey platform. Furthermore, it will further enhance convenience and productivity when developing IoT nodes or performing system integration for Alibaba Cloud connectivity. Customers benefit from the ability to accelerate the market launch of developed products and facilitate easier security and on-site device upgrades, as all software on the platform undergoes AliOS verification in advance.
