Analysis of Future Housing Changes Due to Population and Economic Changes

The research institute plans to utilize its artificial intelligence technology to formulate national land planning policies.

ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) announced that it has signed a business cooperation agreement with the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements at its headquarters for the "exchange of future analysis and prediction technologies in the housing and urban construction sectors."

Taking this collaboration as an opportunity, ETRI will begin full-scale discussions on introducing AI simulation-based future analysis and prediction technologies into the housing and urban construction sectors for the efficient scientific utilization, development, and conservation of national land resources.

Through this, the two organizations plan to collaborate on the development of demand analysis and forecasting technologies in the housing and urban construction sectors by integrating ICT into Korea's housing and urban construction fields, in response to regional population changes and shifts in the economic status of nations and households.

Key areas of cooperation between the two organizations to be discussed on this day include: ▲cooperation in the development, application, and verification of big data-based social simulation technology; ▲research cooperation in sectors such as housing and urban development, as well as the exchange of related data and analysis results; and ▲mutual support for future society analysis and prediction technologies, as well as personnel exchange.

Kim Dong-joo, President of the Korea Institute of Land Research, stated, “We plan to strengthen research capabilities and enhance the quality of research results by mutually exchanging knowledge and academic achievements accumulated by both organizations, such as ETRI’s AI-based population and housing market simulation technology and our institute’s big data-based housing market prediction model. Furthermore, we plan to expand future cooperation into fields such as smart cities and national spatial information.”

Han Dong-won, Head of the SW Content Research Institute at ETRI, also stated, “The self-evolving simulation-based future prediction and analysis technology launched in 2015 [applied] to the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements’ housing market forecasting."It is predicted that applying it publicly will provide an opportunity for expansion into the public sector," they said.

ETRI announced that it entered into this MOU based on the IDX strategy, which fundamentally transforms the public and industrial ecosystems by integrating ICT into all industrial sectors. The institute currently operates IDX strategy task forces in 12 fields, including defense and medical care.
