16 athletes from Korea, the US, Japan, and others participated

KT announced that it successfully concluded the '2017 KT 5G Drone Racing World Masters' held at Seoul Plaza in front of Seoul City Hall on the 11th.

The KT 5G Drone Racing World Masters is an international drone racing competition hosted by KT as part of 'DRONES IN SEOUL 2017,' organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. As this was the first time the event was held in Korea at Seoul Plaza, a no-fly zone within Seoul, it attracted a large crowd of spectators.

Twelve top-ranked domestic players and four top-ranked international players from the US, Japan, and other countries participated in this tournament, engaging in thrilling matches. Kang Chang-hyun, Kim Min-chan, Son Young-rok, and Oka (Japan), who advanced to the finals after the main tournament held as a round of 16, competed for the championship.

Among them, Kang Chang-hyun claimed the honor of victory, along with 7 million won in prize money and a trophy. Kim Min-chan and Son Young-rok of the KT drone team, Giga Five, took 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

Meanwhile, KT carried out various experiential marketing activities for visitors to the event, in addition to drone racing. Visitors could experience the drone fighting game 'Drone Clash' and the virtual reality sport HADO and VR attractions at KT's 5G experience platform, '5G Land.' Furthermore, the KT 5G Drone Academy, where visitors could fly drones themselves, received favorable reviews.

Hong Jae-sang, Senior Vice President of IMC at KT’s Marketing Strategy Division, stated, “Following the Drone Racing World Masters held in Busan last year, I am deeply moved to host a world-class drone racing competition at Seoul Plaza, which represents Seoul,” adding that they will continue to ensure that many people can easily access and experience drones.
