World's First Autonomous Driving Motor Show to Open on the 16th
Held autonomous driving test drives, industry exhibitions, international forums, etc.

An opportunity has been provided to take a comprehensive look at how far domestic autonomous driving technology has come. The "2017 Pangyo Autonomous Driving Motor Show," the world's first motor show themed around autonomous vehicles, opened on the 16th at the Pangyo Zero City Enterprise Support Hub in Gyeonggi-do.

Autonomous driving traffic infrastructure, including an autonomous driving control center, an integrated control platform, an IoT system, and a big data system, will be established in the autonomous driving demonstration complex being built in Pangyo Zero City, a future-oriented innovation city free from carbon emissions, environmental pollution, accidents, and risks by the end of 2019.

The 'Zero Shuttle,' a symbol of Pangyo Zero City, was unveiled on the first day of the event. The Zero Shuttle is an autonomous vehicle developed under the leadership of the Gyeonggi Institute of Advanced Technology. It operates in real-world road environments where regular vehicles travel, communicating with the control center and the road conditions using V2X communication technology. Starting this December, it will undergo pilot operation on a 5.5km stretch of public road between Pangyo Zero City and Pangyo Station.

Following that, there was also a test drive of an autonomous vehicle. Exclusively for participants who have pre-registered, test-driving the Grandeur HG created by the Intelligent Vehicle Design Lab team at Kookmin University, the 'AEV-1' from the Next Generation Convergence Technology Research Institute based on the Ray, and the 'Unmanned Autonomous Tram' jointly developed by the Kookmin University Unmanned Vehicle Research Lab team and Unmanned Solution will be available.

The Autonomous Driving Industry Expo is being held in the indoor exhibition hall. Nextchip showcased pre-processors for ADAS, while INT Korea presented ADAS technology and 3D surround view technology. Hanatech Systems exhibited the Geomagnetic Vehicle Detection System (MVDS), which serves as the foundation for the next-generation Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS).

In addition, 16 domestic and international IT/parts companies participated, including Easymile, Dongyang Mulsan Enterprise, Magus Technology, Nexreal, Daechang Motors, Unmanned Solution, Spring Cloud, and Chemtronics.

The PAMS International Forum was also held. Jeong Taek-dong, Vice President of the Next Generation Convergence Technology Center, who attended the forum, stated, “The first autonomous driving motor show held in Korea marks the beginning of autonomous vehicles,” adding, “Pangyo Zero City will become the standard for autonomous vehicle criteria and a symbol of a sustainable society.”

Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil continued, “The fundamental reason for pursuing autonomous vehicles should be to make human lives happier,” adding, “Zero City embodies the meaning of reducing elements that hinder happiness, such as traffic accidents and exhaust fumes, to zero.”

He stated, “While developed countries set standards, Pangyo Zero City must establish the standards for autonomous vehicles,” adding, “General vehicles will be prohibited from entering Zero City, and only vehicles using alternative energy will be allowed. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport must provide the legal basis to block the entry of general vehicles.” He further explained, “The control center plans to collect data on vehicles traveling through Zero City and make it available to companies and individuals who wish to participate. Gyeonggi Province’s role is to create a platform and build infrastructure that enables everyone to participate.”

The Autonomous Driving Motor Show runs until the 18th, featuring various events such as test drives, autonomous vehicles vs. humans in mission challenges, EV slalom competitions, university student E-Formula races, and Lego autonomous vehicle competitions.
