VMware President Duncan Hewett introduced VMware Cloud Foundation, the company's integrated virtualization platform, at a press conference on the 16th.

VMware Cloud Foundation, used by Marriott Hotels, a large hotel chain in the United States, allows for real-time monitoring by transmitting data from external IoT devices and sensors to the center along with the use of the hotel's internal network through a private cloud, while also conducting business processes such as communication with customers and reservation cancellations through an external public cloud.

The key to connecting private and public clouds is to enable physically separate systems to be used as a single system through the same virtualization software. Another important aspect is how to handle security for communication between networked physical systems.

VMware's Cloud Foundation provides automated deployment of cloud services by providing a standardized VMware Validated Design architecture, and ensures complete security by providing its security solutions, vSphere encryption, vSAN, and NSX micro-segmentation.

We are also integrating systems engineering by using a software-defined stack for automated and stable connections to external public clouds, while continuing to collaborate with large and small cloud service providers externally.

Representative examples include ongoing collaborations with Amazon's AWS, Microsoft's Azure, and Google's Google Cloud. Specifically, the company opened a data center in Oregon, USA, this year with Amazon's AWS, and plans to open a data center in the Asia-Pacific region next year, said President Huett Duncan.

At the meeting, President Hugh Duncan specifically addressed the Fourth Industrial Revolution, stating that the key to AI, big data, and IoT—the hot topics these days—is maintaining an accurate and stable data network and being able to easily and quickly expand its scope. This demonstrated VMware's confidence in managing the core network infrastructure of the Fourth Industrial Revolution through the engineering integration of a stable and flexible software-defined stack and a standardized architecture.
