Providing cloud-based security services for small and medium-sized enterprises unable to cope with cyber threats

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it is launching a pilot service to eliminate security blind spots for small and medium-sized enterprises and to create a new cloud-based security service model.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) provides security services to interested companies located in the Convergence Technology Research Production Center.

Recently, major overseas companies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, and IBM have been creating new security markets based on cloud security services, whereas the domestic cloud security service market is still in its early stages. Therefore, the development of cloud-customized security service technologies and pilot services are expected to revitalize the related industry and secure technological competitiveness.

The pilot service being implemented provides key core security features in stages, including network intrusion detection, cloud-based antivirus services, and Android mobile malware analysis services.

In addition, it provides customized security services for individual corporate environments based on security service optimization technology utilizing OpenStack and intelligent intrusion threat analysis technology.

Song Jeong-su, Director General of Information Security Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “We expect that providing affordable, cloud-based customized security services will help resolve security blind spots for small and medium-sized enterprises that lack the capacity to invest in information security, such as in the recent ransomware incidents.”

He said, “In order to induce a shift in mindset and voluntary security measures among small and medium-sized enterprises with poor information security levels, information security such as vulnerability improvement and consulting. "We are continuously carrying out these activities. In addition, we plan to support projects that can strengthen security for SMEs and create new markets through technology development," he added.
