Equipped with NB-IoT communication chip, free location tracking communication fees for 2 years

LG Uplus announced that it is launching a project to distribute 'U ⁺ Location Alert,' a child tracker designed for safety protection and prevention of disappearance, to 4,000 underprivileged children in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Dream Start Project Support Group.

This U ⁺ Location Alert distribution project for children is intended to help children from low-income and single-parent families and children with intellectual disabilities who are often left alone without parents or guardians. Along with the location alert, communication usage fees will be provided free of charge from January 2018 to December 2019 (for 24 months).

U ⁺ Location Notifier features a customer-friendly design equipped with Qualcomm's latest NB-IoT communication chip, and Qualcomm participated in this rollout project by sponsoring $200,000 (approximately 228 million KRW) from the 'IoT Market Activation and Startup Incubation' fund.

Accordingly, guardians can now relieve their worries by checking their child's situation on their smartphones using U ⁺ Location Tracker's features, including 'Real-time Location Lookup' which allows verification of the tracker's location, 'SOS Emergency Call' which notifies the child of their location in case of an emergency, and 'Safe Zone Departure Alert' which alerts when the child leaves a pre-set safe zone.

To this end, at the Korea Institute of Childcare in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, 'UA handover ceremony was held for the 'Location Alert' distribution project.

Lee Dong-wook, Head of the Population Policy Office at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, who attended the handover ceremony, said in his congratulatory remarks, “Vulnerable groups and single-parent families often worry about their children’s safety even while at work, so U ⁺ Location Tracker will be of great help.”

Lee Tae-won, President of Qualcomm Korea, said, “I am pleased that through this distribution project, Qualcomm and LG Uplus can cooperate to enhance the safety of children in need of help, while simultaneously contributing to the revitalization of the domestic IoT market and the nurturing of related startups.”

Meanwhile, LG Uplus provided four types of its home IoT services free of charge to 1,200 households with hearing and severe disabilities last year, and is actively carrying out social contribution projects utilizing IoT, such as distributing IoT electricity bill notifications to 1,000 low-income elderly households living alone to prevent lonely deaths among the elderly* and providing U ⁺ tv 'Kids' World' free of charge to child care facilities.
