Wave-shaped signage wall installed at Seoul Dragon City

LG Electronics is launching a full-scale offensive on the commercial display market with OLED signage of a whole new dimension.

LG Electronics installed a wave-shaped OLED signage wall at Seoul Dragon City, which recently opened in Yongsan, Seoul. Thirty-nine 55-inch OLED flexible signage units (model name: 55EF5C), capable of bending to fit the installation site, were connected in a curved shape. A magnificent screen measuring 27 meters in length and 3.4 meters in width was created.

Seoul Dragon City houses four hotels across three buildings. It consists of Grand Mercure Ambassador Seoul Yongsan, Novotel Suites Ambassador Seoul Yongsan, Novotel Ambassador Seoul Yongsan, and Ibis Styles Ambassador Seoul Yongsan. LG Electronics installed OLED signage on the ceiling of the 31st floor of 'Sky Kingdom,' a space that connects the top floors of two of the buildings like a bridge. 'Sky Kingdom' features a lounge bar, rooftop bar, swimming pool, cafe, and party rooms.

Unlike LCDs, OLED signage does not have a backlight and each pixel emits light, so it can achieve a completely different level of image quality. In addition, it has a wide viewing angle, so colors are not distorted regardless of the viewing angle, making it suitable for signage viewed by multiple people.

OLED signage is thin and lightweight, allowing for efficient use of space by being mounted on walls or suspended from ceilings, and is easy to manufacture in curved shapes. Leveraging the advantages of OLED, LG Electronics has introduced new forms of signage, such as wave-shaped, arch-shaped, and tunnel-shaped designs.

Earlier this year, LG Electronics covered three interior walls and the ceiling of the elevators at the Lotte World Tower 2 observatory with OLED signage. A total of 60 OLED signage units were installed across the two double-decker elevators. They vividly display various videos during the approximately one-minute ascent to the 118th-floor observatory.

LG Electronics also installed a large signage wall at Paradise City on Yeongjong Island using 36 OLED flexible signage panels. OLED flexible signage is an innovative panel that can be manufactured to be concave or convex to suit the installation environment. Going beyond simple video displays, it is possible to create artistic forms resembling sculptures.
