Special exhibitions commemorating the Winter Olympics will be held at five science museums nationwide.

The 'Pyeongchang ICT Experience Center' will open to host the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

The Ministry of Science and ICT opened an ICT Experience Center in the PyeongChang Olympic Plaza so that visitors can conveniently enjoy the 'ICT Olympics,' one of the five major goals of the PyeongChang Olympics.

General visitors can visit the 'Culture ICT Hall' jointly operated by the PyeongChang Organizing Committee and the Ministry of Science and ICT to enjoy works by world-renowned media artist Nam June Paik, modern and contemporary art pieces from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art*, and five cutting-edge ICT services applied to the PyeongChang Olympics all in one place.

The 'Pyeongchang ICT Experience Center' is the second ICT Olympic experience space to open, following the 'Incheon Airport ICT Lounge' that opened on November 1st, the 100th day of the Olympic Games. Located next to the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, it allows for a more immersive experience of the ICT Olympics.

The Ministry of Science and ICT has completed preparations for the experience center and is pushing forward with the ICT Olympics without a hitch. Taking into account the International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s measures to protect competition facilities, it plans to operate a pre-registration system* before the opening of the Olympics (February 9, 2018).

‘Gangneung IoT Street (tentative name)’, which installed IoT infrastructure on Gangneung Wolhwa Street, and the five major services of the ICT Olympics and ICT products of promising small and medium-sized enterprises for export The 'Gangneung ICT Promotion Center (tentative name)', where you can meet people, will also open sequentially by the end of January next year.

Additionally, we plan to produce and distribute guidebooks in Korean and English online and offline to help the general public more easily utilize the ICT services applied to the Olympics.

The Ministry of Science and ICT and related organizations, such as the Science Museum and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, are promoting events related to the PyeongChang Olympics.

Five science museums (Jungang, Gwacheon, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, etc.) plan to hold special exhibitions commemorating the Winter Olympics to raise interest in the event.

In particular, visitors who present Olympic advance tickets will be able to use parking for free (Central Science Museum) or enter the permanent exhibition hall for free (other science museums).

Minister Yoo Young-min said, “ICT can be counted as an area in which our country has made remarkable progress since the 1988 Seoul Olympics,” and added, “As our country is hosting the Olympics for the first time in 30 years, the Ministry of Science and ICT will do its best to successfully host the PyeongChang ICT Olympics during the remaining period in order to demonstrate our status as an ICT powerhouse.”
