Double data transfer rates and extend cable coverage distance by up to 50%

Maxim Integrated Korea has launched new RS-485 transceivers, the 'MAX22500E', 'MAX22501E', and 'MAX22502E'.

The new transceiver series doubles the data transfer rate while extending the cable acceptance distance by up to 50%.

Motion control systems require fast data transmission speeds and longer cable tolerances for high accuracy in long-distance communication. If data transmission speeds are slow and cable tolerances are short, the motion control system will not operate efficiently.

The MAX22500E/MAX22501E (half-duplex) and MAX22502E (full-duplex) ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protected RS-485/RS-422 transceivers support a maximum speed of 100 Mbps over a 50-meter range (50 Mbps over 100 meters). They provide an industry-leading 100 Mbps data transfer rate over cables for various motion control applications, enabling accurate, economical, and robust communication.

The pre-emphasis feature configurable in the MAX22500E and MAX22502E increases encoder resolution and reduces latency with a data transfer rate twice as high as competitors. This feature can extend the cable capacity by up to 50% for long-distance communication.

The large receiver hysteresis of 250mV provides excellent robustness to the EFT. The Maxim solution lowers the voltage to 1.6V with a flexible low-voltage supply interface. By improving signal integration and robustness, the same performance as before can be achieved even when using less expensive cables.

Maxim transceivers are configured in small 8, 10, or 12-pin TDFN (Thin-DFN) packages, miniaturizing product size. This solution operates in a range of -40 to +125 degrees Celsius.
