Small and accurate temperature error range

ams announced the release of the new AS6200C digital temperature sensor IC, which provides excellent measurement accuracy over a temperature range of -20°C to +10°C.

The AS6200C provides excellent performance that enables designers of refrigerators and data loggers for cold storage facilities to easily meet very demanding system-level accuracy targets. The measurement performance of the AS6200C is highly accurate, exhibiting an error level of ±0.2°C in the temperature range of -20°C to +10°C, where fresh food refrigeration systems typically operate, and ensures accurate sensor measurement performance across an input voltage range of 1.8V to 3.6V.

In temperature control and temperature logging applications, the total error threshold is composed of various factors. Therefore, by minimizing errors at the measurement point, designers can secure an error margin for other errors or noise sources, such as heat generated by board-mounted components. By using the high-accuracy AS6200C, designers can not only maintain the total error threshold below a certain level but also enjoy the flexibility to modify other elements of the system design.

The AS6200C integrates a sensor front-end, a 12-bit ADC, and digital logic into a small WL-CSP package. This sensor provides digital output to a host MCU via an ^I2C interface. The AS6200C performs digital signal processing functions onboard, which means that user calibration is not required and the linearized output does not require compensation by an external MCU.

The AS6200C is designed for storage and transport equipment for food, pharmaceuticals, flowers, and other perishable goods, as well as for home or commercial refrigerators, and is highly suitable for designing data loggers compliant with EN12830:1999 Class 1 standards. As a successor to the AS6200 sensor, which achieves peak accuracy in the 0°C to 65°C range, the new product further expands ams’s family of small, high-precision digital temperature sensor ICs.
