LG Uplus announced that it has developed a virtualization integrated management platform (NFV MANO: NFV Management and Orchestration) with Iruon, a domestic mobile telecommunications solution developer, and will deploy it on its commercial network.

A virtualization network is a technology that provides services by installing various communication equipment functions in the form of software (applications) on a general-purpose server, instead of installing hardware communication equipment individually for each communication service.

By changing hardware-based equipment into software, the physical time required to build new equipment can be drastically reduced, and system upgrades for new services can be applied all at once, making it a key element in building 5G networks.

The platform managing these virtualization networks plays a role in ensuring the smooth operation of virtualization equipment by appropriately allocating resources such as CPU and memory of general-purpose servers according to the status of each virtualization equipment, including whether it is overloaded.

Previously, since the specifications of virtualization equipment varied by manufacturer, separate virtualization network management platforms had to be operated for each manufacturer. However, with the application of the integrated virtualization management platform, it has become possible to manage various virtualization devices through a single platform regardless of the manufacturer.

This platform integrates the management of service quality and traffic capacity regardless of the manufacturer, enabling flexible responses even in situations where traffic surges in specific regions or failures occur..

In addition, it is expected that stable service quality can be ensured by rapidly allocating additional capacity to the affected area even in the event of unexpected network failures, such as general-purpose server failures or traffic overload.

Going forward, LG Uplus plans to first build and operate a platform for the integrated management of enterprise virtualization equipment, and subsequently utilize it in 5G networks. In addition, it plans to release the interoperability specifications of the integrated virtualization management platform in the form of an API (Application Programming Interface) to enable other domestic small and medium-sized enterprises to easily develop virtualization equipment.
