Launch of the industry's first IC product family supporting Thunderbolt™ technology
Published2012.03.21 11:16TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) March 21, 2012 – TI announced the launch of the industry's first family of integrated circuit (IC) products supporting Thunderbolt™ technology. The Thunderbolt high-speed interface standard supports dual 10.3 Gbps transmission lanes and combines PCI Express and DisplayPort into a single cable, enabling the transmission of both data and display signals over that single cable. As TI is the only company in the industry to provide a device ecosystem capable of implementing comprehensive solutions, developers can accelerate their Thunderbolt-based design work through these products. TI’s initial product, capable of implementing a comprehensive design from the host PC through the cable to peripherals, includes six devices. The TPS22980 power load switch is used on both the host and device sides and can supply or receive power to both the active cable and the connected device. The LM3017 boost and battery cutoff controller and the HD3SS001 FET switch operate side-by-side on the host and can be connected via a cable equipped with the TPS22985 power load switch, the DS100TB211 signal conditioning retimer with CDR (clock and data recovery) functionality, and the LMZ10501 SIMPLE SWITCHER® Nano module. All of these devices operate seamlessly to achieve an optimal Thunderbolt user experience. (See www.ti.com/thunderbolt-pr for the block diagram)

TPS22980: 3.3V~18V Power Load Switch
• A single integrated solution simplifies system design by providing a dual voltage switch with adjustable current limiting capabilities to reduce board space and prevent damage to connected components.

TPS22985: Power selection device

DS100TB211: Signal Conditioning Retimer with CDR Function
• Enables the use of thin and affordable 40 AWG cables with a dual-lane retimer featuring adaptive 4-stage equalization.
• Lowers Bill of Materials (BOM) costs and reduces PCB layers by integrating clock synthesis and power filtering functions
• Reduces assembly time and costs by integrating on-chip cable diagnostic capabilities
HD3SS0001: Data Source Selection Switch

LM3017: Boost controller with True Shutdown function
• True Shutdown function prevents excessive current draw from the battery in the event of a short circuit.
• Meets broadband output noise and ripple requirements with peak-to-peak performance of less than 50mV
• Output Since it supplies a maximum power capacity of 30W, it powers two 15W Thunderbolt ports each.

ST Launches 75V Drive IC Targeting 48V Industrial Motor Driving
ST Microelectronics has unveiled the 'STSPIN9P' series of 75V motor drive ICs tailored for 48V-class industrial drive system design. The new product family is characterized by half-bridge and full-bridge configurations that enable design scalability according to motor type and output conditions. Power supply circuits, protection functions, and current sensing circuits are integrated on-chip to simplify system configuration, and the devices are designed to support applications up to 500W maximum.
