LG Electronics Unveils 2018 Premium Monitor Lineup Featuring 'Nano IPS' Technology
Published2017.12.22 11:38LG Electronics is unveiling a major lineup of 2018 premium monitor new products. At 'CES 2018' held in Las Vegas, USA starting January 9th, the company will showcase 4K (3,840X2,160)/5K (5,120X2,180) gaming monitors equipped with 'Nano IPS' technology.
The 31.5-inch 4K 'Nano IPS' monitor (model: 32UK950) applies nano technology to the surface of the LED lamp light source, enabling more accurate color reproduction.
LG Electronics completed 'Nano IPS' by utilizing fine molecules in nanometer (nm) units. These fine molecules precisely adjust colors. For example, conventional monitors mix other colors such as yellow and orange when displaying red. Therefore, they display red that differs from the content creator's intent. 'Nano IPS' absorbs unnecessary yellow and orange to produce red closest to the intended color.
This product excels in HDR image expression as well. It meets the 'HDR 600' standard of the 'Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA)'. 'HDR 600' is granted to products with maximum brightness of 600 candelas (cd/m2) or higher and wide color gamut. This product achieves maximum brightness of 600 candelas. The color gamut satisfies 98% of DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives)-P3, the color standard used in film production.
This product is optimal for work involving video and content creation. It features a 'Thunderbolt3' connector that transmits large volumes of data. 'Thunderbolt3' transmits up to 40 gigabits (Gbps) of data per second. It enables outputting 4K video to two 4K monitors from a notebook. It charges notebooks connected to the monitor with 60W of power. This product is compatible with select 'LG Gram' models and MacBook Pro that feature 'Thunderbolt3' connectors.
This product is the first in the monitor industry to support 4K 'Daisy Chain'. Users can connect two 4K monitors and a notebook using a single 'Thunderbolt3' standard 'Daisy Chain' cable. With conventional cables, data transmission capacity was insufficient, requiring each of two 4K monitors to be separately connected to the notebook.
The 34-inch 21:9 aspect ratio ultrawide monitor (model: 34WK95U) boasts 5K ultra-high resolution. LG Electronics is the first in the monitor industry to develop a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor with 5K resolution. This product displays vibrant color content perfectly.
This product truly shines in professional work such as video and photo editing, app development, and programming with its 21:9 aspect ratio. Users can display their editing work in a 16:9 ratio on the screen and use the remaining screen space to open browser windows or other applications to search for necessary materials or perform additional work.
To deliver the highest image quality, LG Electronics applied 'Nano IPS' and 'HDR 600' technology to this product as well. It also features a 'Thunderbolt3' connector. With just one cable, it not only transmits 5K video but also charges notebooks connected to the monitor with 85W of power.
The 34-inch 21:9 aspect ratio gaming monitor (model: 34GK950G) is optimal for enjoying high-end games with stunning graphics. It features NVIDIA's 'G-SYNC™' technology to minimize screen tearing and stuttering. It implements colors accurately with 'Nano IPS'.

Samsung Electronics' QLED gaming monitor receives HDR certification from VESA.
Samsung Electronics' QLED gaming monitors CHG90 and CHG70 have received HDR display standard certification from the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a high-definition technology that optimizes contrast by making bright areas of images and photos brighter and dark areas darker, thereby presenting content more vividly and naturally. Unlike TVs, there had been no standardized specifications for HDR performance in PC monitors and notebook displays. However, VESA launched a standardized certification program to the industry on the 11th of this month, which tests products in this category and assigns three tiers (DisplayHDR 400, 600, and 1000).
